Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology announced that the leading Chinese wind turbine makers will invest CNY6 billion (USD840 million) to build a new base to produce offshore wind power equipment.
Goldwind will build the new production base in the coastal city of Beihai, China’s southwestern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, planning to make the plant and related facilities a zero-carbon demonstration park, the Beijing-based company said in a statement late yesterday.
The first phase of the project, which includes the construction of facilities to produce core parts, such as blades, nacelle covers, and motors, will cost nearly CNY1.8 billion, Goldwind noted.
The production base will also include a 50,000-ton offshore wind power equipment transportation terminal, a 1,500-megawatt experimental offshore wind farm, an offshore wind power big data center, a carbon trading market, and a power trading center, the company added.
The project will help Goldwind seize opportunities from the fast-growing offshore wind power industry and hike efforts to develop offshore wind power products and improve its business positioning in the supply chain, the firm said.
Goldwind announced in early July that it planned to set up an offshore wind power equipment production center in northern China’s Qinghuangdao, a coastal city near Beijing, for CNY13.3 billion (USD1.9 billion).
Goldwind’s shares [SHE: 002202] were trading down 0.6 percent at CNY8.99 (USD1.27) as of 1.10 p.m. in Shenzhen today.
