On 14 March 2024, a signing ceremony was held for a serious solar PV projects in Algeria. And two of them were signed by Algeria and Chinese company.
One of the solar PV projects, located in Megayel province of Algeria, with an installed capacity of 200MW, was bagged by CSCEC (China State Constuction), a leading global construction company with diverse business segments and projects worldwide.
Another solar PV project located in El Oued, with a production capacity of 300MW, has been bagged by CSCEC and SHAEMS, a leading Algerian renewable energy company jointly established by state-owned Sonatrach and Sonelgaz.
Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Minerals, pointed out that the construction of photovoltaic plants is an important step towards a secure energy future for Algeria, as they will meet the growing demand for electricity and contribute to the energy transition in a clean and sustainable way, as well as creating a large number of jobs and bringing advanced technologies for the development of clean energy.
Once completed, these two projects will significantly increase Algeria’s renewable energy capacity and help the country achieve its energy transition goals, and these projects will also become an important outcome of China-Algeria energy cooperation, further strengthening the two countries’ cooperation in the energy sector.
