Chinese new energy vehicle giant BYD has revealed its next-generation platform that enables electric vehicles to charge in as little time as refilling a gas tank.
Under peak voltage and conditions, the flash-charging battery equipped with BYD's Super e-Platform can output up to one megawatt of power, helping EVs charge for a 400-kilometer range in just five minutes, exceeding all existing charging technologies, according to information disclosed at a launch event yesterday.
Super e-Platform is the world's first mass-produced megawatt-level EV charging solution, as well as the automotive industry's first battery with megawatt-charging power, Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD, said at the event.
BYD plans to build over 4,000 flash-charging stations across China and grant the industry access to such technology to attract more private capital and accelerate the development of a flash-charging network.
The Shenzhen-based company also unveiled yesterday that it developed a 'smart boost' technology that automatically boosts the output voltage of existing public fast-charging stations when charging vehicles equipped with Super e-Platform.
Super e-Platform not only integrates breakthroughs in charging capabilities but also adds comprehensive upgrades and deeply integrates core EV components, including motors, batteries, and battery management systems.
