On 26 May 2025, LONGi announced the termination of its 15GW Wuhu (Phase II) monocrystalline module project, redirecting CNY 1.08 billion of earmarked funds to a 12GW high-efficiency back-contact cell project in Tongchuan City, China. This strategic shift aims to accelerate the deployment of advanced capacity and optimise capital efficiency amid evolving industry dynamics.

The Wuhu project was initially scheduled to reach full production capacity of 15GW by late 2024 via leased facilities. However, existing module output is sufficient to meet current demand and no funds have yet been deployed.

Funds will now support the Tongchuan plant, which uses BC cell technology that is renowned for its superior conversion efficiency and adaptable design for rooftop and commercial applications. This follows rapid advancements in BC cell commercialisation and manufacturing processes, which reinforce LONGi’s position in next-generation solar technology.

According to company statements, the reallocation optimises the capacity mix and accelerates innovation in high-value products. The Tongchuan project, which is being carried out by a LONGi subsidiary, will be implemented in phases to maximise capital productivity, reflecting the industry’s shift towards higher-efficiency solutions amid global competitive pressures.
