China's share of the global new-energy vehicle(NEV)market stood at 67.6 percent from January to August, and in August alone,China's share remained at a high level of 68.7 percent, showing remarkable stability, according to industry data on Monday.
The impressive figures were released by the China Passenger Car Association(CPCA),which noted that China held a 64.3 percent share of the global pure electric vehicle market during the same period, roughly unchanged from 2024.The country's share of the global plug-in hybrid market reached an exceptionally high 75.7 percent, underscoring China's outstanding performance in this segment.
Notably,China's NEV exports hit record highs in the first three quarters. From January to September,China exported 1.32 million self-branded NEVs,up 125 percent year-on-year,with NEVs accounting for 38.9 percent of all self-branded vehicle exports. In September, passenger car retail and wholesale sales, exports and production all set monthly records, with NEV exports setting a monthly record, according to the CPCA.
In September,NEVs accounted for 40.1 percent of total vehicle exports,15 percentage points higher than in the same period last year.
The association said that China's NEV penetration continues to expand. In September,NEVs accounted for 57.8 percent of China's total passenger vehicle retail sales,up 5 percentage points year-on-year.
"China holds advantages in key areas such as batteries, electric motors, and artificial intelligence, and with strong policy support, its NEV industry has achieved leapfrog growth,"Bian Yongzu, executive deputy editor-in-chief of Modernization of Management magazine, told the Global Times.
Bian said that China's NEV industry has become a new engine driving economic growth. As the world's largest NEV producer,China has spurred rapid development across related sectors including batteries, electric motors, intelligent manufacturing and new materials, creating millions of jobs and forming a complete industrial ecosystem that offers a valuable reference for other countries.
He added that the wide adoption of NEVs has raised public environmental awareness, encouraged green consumption and improved energy efficiency, while driving the growth of the energy storage and renewable industries. The transformation of the NEV sector is not only a technological revolution but also a key force propelling society toward low-carbon and sustainable development, with far-reaching implications for global decarbonization and environmental governance,Bian said.
