On 20 July 2023, a ceremony was held in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Region, China, to mark the start of construction of the high-purity silicon material production project initiated by Tongwei Solar and the Kundu District People’s Government, Baotou City, China.
The project aims to achieve a production capacity of 200,000 MT of high-purity silicon materials for the photovoltaic industry, with a total investment of 14 billion yuan. A new 5G factory will be designed and put into operation with intelligent, smart and digital equipment, using the company’s proprietary eighth-generation Yongxiang method to provide high-purity silicon materials at low cost.
This production base is an important step for Tongwei to expand its production capacity, as it is estimated to reach a total capacity of 380,000 MT by 2023, and its global market share will exceed 25%, ranking first in the world.
It is also expected to promote the development of the photovoltaic and clean energy business in Baotou City with the use of local renewable resources and preferential policy support, making Baotou the Green Silicon Capital of the world and achieving China’s Dual-Carbon Goals.
