1. As one of China's first 3rd-generation nuclear power plants, Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant in east China's Shandong has generated 104.3 billion kWh of electricity by Wednesday since it was connected to the grid in 2018, equivalent to a cut of 83.44 million tonnes in CO2 emissions.
2. China has made a breakthrough in its search for lithium, a critical mineral used in electric vehicles and other battery-powered devices. The Ministry of Natural Resources announced on Thursday that China has discovered nearly 1 million tons of lithium resources in Yajiang County, Sichuan Province. This is the largest known lithium deposit in Asia.
3. On Thursday, German chemical giant BASF announced the launch of a thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) facility, the second plant to come on stream at the 10-billion-euro Verbund site under construction in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. The new plant will better enable BASF to meet the growing demand in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in the industrial, e-mobility and new energy sectors, said Martin Jung, president, performance materials, BASF, at a ceremony in Zhanjiang on Thursday.
4. Tesla said yesterday it will do a cybertruck national tour in China's showrooms, with a registration deadline of March 31 and fans deciding which city to debut the all-electric pickup. The Cybertruck was introduced in 2019 and first delivered to customers last November.
5. China, an automotive innovation powerhouse, witnessed significant progress in the intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) industry by end-2023, establishing 17 national-level demonstration zones and 16 pilot cities, with a cumulative test mileage of 88 million km nationwide.
6. The world's highest-altitude wind farm in Chigu Town of Comai County, SW China's Xizang, has generated over 200 mln kWh of electricity as of Jan 15. Located at an elevation of over 5,000 m, the ultra-high-altitude project has an installed capacity of 72.6 MW with 25 wind turbines.

China exported 4.91 million vehicles in 2023, up 57.9% year on year, making it the world's largest auto exporter last year, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Friday. China's vehicle sales rose 12% year on year to 30.09 million vehicles and production rose 11.6% to 30.16 million in the same period, both hitting record highs.
8. China's Ganfeng Lithium has become the battery material supplier of South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor in a bid to realize a win-win partnership. Ganfeng Lithium will supply battery-grade lithium hydroxide, one of the main raw materials to make cathodes for ternary lithium batteries, to Hyundai for four years starting this year, the Jiangxi province-based company announced late yesterday, citing the long-term supply deal the pair recently signed.
9. In a recent interview in Davos, Zhong Baoshen, the Chairman of Longi Green Energy, the world's largest manufacturer of solar equipment, stated that the development of clean energy in the US will continue regardless of which political party is elected. Zhong expressed his confidence in the US's commitment to clean energy.
10. China will deepen the NEV presence in rural areas and promote the electrification of vehicles in the public sector to boost high-quality development of the NEV sector, the NDRC said. Technological innovation in auto chips and autonomous driving will also be supported.
