1. China's west-to-east gas transmission project has welcomed a new section traversing 1,745 kilometers in northwest China from Turpan to Zhongwei. Officially launched Sunday, the new pipeline can transmit 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year.
2. The EU is planning to vote on whether to introduce tariffs as high as 45% on imported electric vehicles made in China on Oct. 4, Bloomberg reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter. Member states have received a draft of the regulation for the proposed measures, the report said, adding that the new date could still change.
3. Volkswagen cut its annual outlook for the second time in less than three months on Friday, citing a weaker-than-expected performance at its passenger car division as pressure on Europe's top automaker continues to rise. The lowered outlook is the latest from Germany's car giants, with Mercedes-Benz and BMW both downgrading their annual forecasts earlier this month as a result of weakening demand in China, the world's biggest car market.
4. The Commerce Department stated that U.S. auto sales could decrease by up to 25,841 vehicles annually and prices could increase if proposed rules banning Chinese vehicles connecting to the internet and using Chinese software and hardware are implemented. This could make U.S. automakers and other sellers less competitive globally due to higher vehicle prices.
5. Tesla has reached the 1 million vehicle milestone for export from China, as the US electric vehicle maker utilizes production capacity in the world's largest EV market to meet demand in global markets. Today, the millionth China-made Tesla vehicle for export was loaded onto a ship and set sail from Shanghai's port of Nangang, Grace Tao, the company's vice president of external affairs, wrote in a Weibo post.
6. Widespread use of solid-state batteries may be difficult to see in the next 3 years, but it's expected to be realized in 5 years, BYD chief scientist Lian Yubo said today in a speech at the 2024 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC 2024) in Haikou, Hainan province.
7. Xpeng has entered the Spanish and Portuguese markets, as the Chinese electric vehicle maker expands its European footprint. The company held launch events in Madrid, Spain, on September 25 and Lisbon, Portugal, on September 26, launching the G9 and G6 SUVs and the P7 sedan in both European countries, according to a statement today.

9. Nio announced that Nio China has received a new investment from investors in Hefei, Anhui province, as its Chinese business operations entity receives further support from the city. The EV maker announced today that it has entered into definitive agreements with Hefei Jianheng New Energy Automobile Investment Fund Partnership, Anhui Provincial Emerging Industry Investment Co Ltd and CS Capital Co Ltd for an investment in its 92.1 percent-owned Chinese subsidiary, Nio Holding Co Ltd (Nio China).
10. BYD has launched the BYD Shark hybrid pickup truck in Panama, its first hybrid model in the Latin American country. In Panama, the pickup truck market has shown considerable growth in recent years, said Eduardo López de Victoria, general manager of BYD Central America and the Caribbean, according to an announcement today.
