1. China was the major driving force behind the world's rapid expansion of renewable power generation capacity last year, which grew by 50% to 510 gigawatts, the International Energy Agency said.
2. Li Auto is reportedly offering price cuts across all of its models with discounts ranging from 35,000 to 38,000 yuan. In response, it said that the price cuts are being implemented to compete with BBA. It is also being offered as part of a limited-time New Year promotion.
3. BYD's first car transport ship, capable of carrying 7,000 cars, has completed its delivery and maiden voyage from Yantai Port in Shandong province to Xiaomo Port in Shenzhen, the Chinese EV giant said yesterday. BYD will put seven such vessels into operation in the next two years.

Industry insiders said today that SK On signed an agreement to provide batteries for Hyundai Motor's second-generation electric vehicle platform, becoming the first partner of Hyundai Motor's second-generation electric vehicle platform project with a value of about one trillion won. SK On's pouch batteries will be used in Hyundai Motor's new electric vehicles from 2025 to 2026.

8. Chinese electric vehicle battery giant CATL is expected to start construction at a new plant in Beijing this year, according to a recent spoiler by the local development and reform commission. Chinese EV makers Li Auto and Xiaomi Automobile will help Beijing's auto sector become a pillar for the city, Beijing Daily reported on Jan. 12, citing the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform. The Chinese capital city plans to put Li Auto's car part production base into operation and kick off construction at CATL's local plant this year, the report added.

Australian lithium and tantalite mining company Pilbara Minerals said Chinese battery materials supplier Ganfeng Lithium Group plans to nearly double its purchase of spodumene concentrate from the Australian lithium producer over the next three years despite an oversupply of lithium salts and tumbling prices, according to Yicai.
10. The Chinese-built all-electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network was officially opened to traffic in Senegal on Sunday, the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa. Over 120 China-made electric buses will operate on the BRT network covering a total length of 18.3 km.
