1. China's commerce minister said on Wednesday that Beijing will continue to negotiate "until the last minute" on the EU's electric vehicle probe, with the investigation undermining confidence of Chinese companies investing in Europe. Wang Wentao was speaking in Brussels at a China-Europe Electric Vehicles event where around 30 top executives of Chinese and European electric vehicle industries met to discuss views on the EU's anti-subsidy case against China's EVs.
2. Volkswagen is planning to stop production at one of its combustion engine car plants in China, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said, in a sign of carmakers' struggles to manage overcapacity in the world's biggest car market. The carmaker, along with its joint venture partner SAIC Motor, will gradually shift production of its Passat family cars from the Nanjing plant to a nearby factory in the same eastern province of Jiangsu, the person said.
3. Italy's Giorgia Meloni has lashed out at the EU’s ban on the sale of new fossil fuel-powered car engines after 2035 as a “self-destructive” policy, and vowed to press Brussels “to correct these choices”. Addressing the powerful Italian industrial association Confindustria on Wednesday, the prime minister called the “forced conversion” to electric propulsion of the entire EU market for new light vehicles within a decade “not very smart as a strategy”.
4. China will open 12 nuclear research facilities and testing platforms to international scientists and institutions to enhance global cooperation, including the China Advanced Research Reactor, the new-generation tokamak device Huanliu-3, and the Beishan Underground Research Laboratory, a senior Chinese official said on Monday.
5. ADAMA's first solar project at the Sanonda base in Jingzhou, Hubei, China is operational, which will generate 2 million kWh of electricity and reduce 1,600 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. In 2023, ADAMA reduced its carbon footprint by 14%, with 10.5% of energy renewable.

7. Chinese electric vehicle startup Nio will launch the first model under its new sub-brand Onvo to compete with Tesla's Model Y, the best-selling EV in the world. The Onvo L60, with a pre-sale price of CNY219,900 (USD30,400), will debut at a lunch event in Beijing at 7.30 p.m. today. In comparison, the Model Y sales for CNY249,900 in China.
8. Avatr enters Thailand with launch of Avatr 11 SUV. Avatr has launched the right-hand drive version of the Avatr 11 in Thailand at a starting price of around $62,860, with deliveries set to begin in November.
9. CATL launches battery with 15-year lifespan for electric buses. CATL has launched the CATL Tectrans Bus Edition, claiming an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, the highest in the electric bus industry.
