1. Longi and TCL Zhonghuan reduced their wafer prices this week. Longi cut the price of its 182mn wafers by 8.28% MoM to CNY 3.38. TCL Zhonghuan is now offering 150um P-type silicon wafers in sizes of 182mm, 210mm, and 218.2mm for CNY 3.1, CNY 4.08, and CNY 4.41. Its N-type 110μm wafers, in 182mm and 210mm sizes, are now priced at CNY 3.08 and CNY 4.03, down CNY 0.26 from August.
2. Polysilicon production rose by 1.7% MoM and 26.2% YoY in August. Silicon wafer production increased by 12.4% MoM and 74.2% YoY. Cell production saw a 2.6% sequential increase and a 56.4% YoY increase. Module production fell by 1.1% MoM, but it rose by 66.2% YoY. Inverter production, on the other hand, fell by 9.5% MoM but rose by 67.4% on the year, according to the China Photovoltaic Industry Association.
3. Robotco Intelligent Technology (Robotechnik) says that it has signed a CNY 165 million contract with TP Solar, a subsidiary of India's Tata Power Company Ltd. The China-based PV manufacturing equipment says that the new contract represents a significant increase in value compared to earlier agreements with Tata Power and its subsidiaries.
4. China's Trina Solar, one of the world's biggest solar panel makers by sales, is planning to build its third factory in Vietnam, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Sep. 27. Trina would invest $400 million in the plant that would span 25 hectares of industrial land. Production is set to begin in 2025, one of the sources with direct knowledge of the plan said.
5. On Sep. 27, PetroChina's first green and low-carbon comprehensive energy demonstration station integrating photovoltaics, energy storage, charging, discharging, battery swapping, and battery testing was put into operation in the Beijing Winter Olympic Village. The station has 111 charging parking spaces and can provide convenient and efficient charging services for hundreds of electric vehicles at the same time.
6. BYD ELECTRONIC announced that it has entered into a formal acquisition agreement with Jabil Circuit (Singapore) at a consideration of approximately RMB 15.8 billion. The mobile electronics manufacturing business of Jabil (Singapore) in Chengdu and Wuxi will be transferred to the Juno Newco Target after the reorganization.
7. According to FT on Sep. 26, Tesla and European carmakers that export from China to the EU will be part of the bloc's probe into whether the country's electric vehicles industry is receiving unfair subsidies, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing Brussels' most senior trade official.
8. China's solar exports increased by a third in the first half of 2023. This amount of solar panels could generate enough electricity to power Sweden and is equivalent to the total installed solar panel capacity of the United States, according to Global energy think tank Ember.
9. The chemical giant Wacker Chemie plans to invest EUR 150 mln (USD158.4 mln) to expand its specialty silicone manufacturing capacity in China. Wacker will hike the capacity of its production base in S China's Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, to meet Chinese clients' constantly growing demand for specialty silicone products, the Munich-based company announced yesterday.
10. Nuclear energy is expected to supply around 10% of China's electricity by 2035, a director of the China Nuclear Energy Association's nuclear energy public communication committee said Mon. It would lead to a reduction of about 920 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
