1. Tarim oilfield in NW China saw a record oil and gas equivalent output of 33.53 million tonnes in 2023, up 430,000 tonnes YoY. The oilfield has so far drilled more than 80% of all ultra-deep wells in China and contributed 3/4 to the country's ultra-deep oil and gas reserves.
2. As one of China's largest of its kind, a pollution-free Propylene Oxide (PO) plant that uses a Hydrogen Peroxide-to-Propylene Oxide (HPPO) process started trial operation in E China's Jiangsu, boasting a capacity to yield 40 tonnes of PO annually with less raw material and energy.
3. Chinese automaker Chery Holding Group Co., Ltd. reported strong sales in 2023. The company sold over 1.88 million vehicles in 2023, up 52.6 percent year on year. Of the total sales, exports amounted to 937,148 vehicles, up 101.1 percent year on year.
4. Chinese carmaker Chery is considering building a car factory in the UK this decade, as it prepares to enter the market in 2024, according to one of its top executives. China's ninth-largest automotive group is set to launch a range of petrol, hybrid and electric cars in Britain under its mass-market Omoda brand in the spring with its premium line-up, badged as Jaecoo, following in the summer.
5. China has regained the title of the world's biggest buyer of liquefied natural gas, as a further rebound in deliveries threatens to tighten supply of the heating and power plant fuel. LNG shipments to China rose 12% last year to nearly 71 million tons, according to shiptracking data compiled by Bloomberg.
6. China's energy giant Sinopec said last week that its Kuqa project in Xinjiang province, the world's largest green hydrogen project, would reach its full annual capacity of 20,000 tons in the fourth quarter of 2025, after previously saying it expected to hit that rate upon completion.
7. Russian energy giant Gazprom said on Wednesday it set a new daily record the previous day for gas supplies to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline. Gazprom did not provide a figure for the new daily record but said total gas exports to China via the pipeline amounted to 22.7 billion cubic meters in 2023, nearly 1.5 times more than the 15.4 bcm shipped in 2022.
8. Total installed clean energy capacity in NW China's Qinghai Province reached 51.07 million kW in 2023, according to the provincial branch of State Grid. Compared with the end of 2022, State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company registered a robust increase of 23.77% in installed clean energy capacity, with newly-added capacity reaching 9.8 million kW.
9. Chinese new energy vehicle startup Leapmotor Technology missed last year's annual sales target and reported a lower sales growth rate than the industry average. Leapmotor sold 144,200 cars last year, reaching only 72% of its 200,000 units target, the Hangzhou-based company announced on Jan. 1.
10. The world's largest single-site onshore wind power plant, with a total installed capacity of 6,000MW in its phase I project, saw the 1st batch of 216 wind turbines connected to the grid recently in N China's Ulanqab. The first turbines can generate 3.6 bln kWh of green energy a year.
