1. The Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydropower project on the Yangtze River in China, has seen its ship locks operate 204,300 times since trial navigation began in June 2003, with over 12.26 mln passenger trips made and 2+ bln tonnes of cargo transported, according to local authorities.
2. In a closed-door meeting on Tuesday also attended by European automakers, Chinese car companies and industry groups suggested authorities hike tariffs on large gasoline-powered vehicles imported from the European Union, according to Reuters.

Li Chao, spokesperson of the National Development and Reform Commission, told a press conference that a communication mechanism will encourage provinces/states, cities and enterprises of China and the US to strengthen policy exchanges and practice sharing as well as expand and deepen practical cooperation on climate change and green and low-carbon issues.
4. The Chinese-built Thwake Multipurpose Dam in Kenya is near completion and will be commissioned later this year. The project is expected to generate 20 MW of hydroelectric power and provide nearly 150,000 m3 of treated water per day to 1.3 million people in the lower eastern region.
5. CATL, China's largest automotive lithium-ion battery maker, began construction work on its first battery plant in north China on Tuesday, the company announced. It will be built in two phases in Beijing and is scheduled to start production in 2026.

According to China's Passenger Car Association, from June 1 to June 16 this year, the new energy vehicle market in China saw the retail sales of 314,000 vehicles, marking a 14% increase compared to the same period last year but a 4% decrease from the previous month. Since the beginning of this year, a total of 3.569 million vehicles have been sold, representing a 32% year-on-year increase.
7. Tesla has begun deliveries of the updated Model 3 Performance in China, ahead of the third quarter expected when the model was unveiled in the country two months ago. The US electric vehicle maker announced the start of Model 3 Performance deliveries in a post on its WeChat account today, highlighting the model's 3.1-second 0-100 kilometer-per-hour sprint and 261 km/h top speed.
8. At the ongoing EURO2024, Chinese companies including new energy vehicle maker BYD sponsoring the event account for more than one-third of the 13 top-tier sponsors, making China the single biggest source of sponsorship for the major soccer event.
9. China's securities regulator said on Monday it has approved autonomous driving startup Momenta Global Limited's initial public offering (IPO) in the United States. Momenta plans to issue up to 63,352,856 ordinary shares and list on the Nasdaq Stock Market or the New York Stock Exchange, the regulator said in a statement.
10. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Wednesday unveiled revised guidelines for the lithium-ion battery industry to further strengthen standardized management and promote high-quality development of the sector.
