1. Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory letter to the Green Development Forum of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Countries. Xi pointed out that it is the consensus of SCO countries to protect the environment and promote green development. China, committed to the philosophy that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, has in recent years unswervingly pursued a model of sound development featuring improved production, higher living standards and healthy ecosystems.
2. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has criticized the European Union’s tariffs on major Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, describing them as "bad and ill-thought-out decisions." According to the Daily News Hungary, he warned that such measures could potentially spark a trade war. Orbán also emphasized that the primary goal and hope are for these tariffs to be temporary and removed within four months.
3. Porsche China has announced that starting from August 31, 2024, it will recall a portion of the imported Taycan electric vehicles produced between January 7, 2020, and April 24, 2024, totaling 17,278 units.
4. China's BYD, will acquire a 20% stake in its local distributor Rever Automotive in Thailand, its largest market outside of China where it is an electric vehicle market leader, the companies said Saturday. The Shenzhen-based automaker opened its first factory in SE Asia in Thailand this week. The $490 million factory will have an annual manufacturing capacity of 150,000 vehicles and employ 10,000 workers.
5. Li Auto delivered over 200,000 L7 since it started deliveries in March last year, the Chinese NEV startup said on Weibo today. Priced from CNY301,800 (USD41,520), the L7 was Li Auto's first five-seat SUV product.
