1. Saudi crude oil exports to China are set to fall in September to about 43 million barrels, several trade sources said on Monday, citing monthly allocations for term buyers. September exports to China are estimated to slip about 3 million barrels from about 46 million barrels in August, the sources said.
2. Shanghai aims to achieve 100% clean energy for citywide buses and taxis by the end of 2027, meanwhile upgrading or adding 50,000 trucks, 200 airplanes, and over 120 ships to create a green, digital, and smart transport sector, according to a city work plan.
3. China has completed the construction of the world's largest offshore oil and gas platform, according to CCTV. The platform, weighing over 17,000 tons, will be installed in the waters of Saudi Arabia. It is expected to have an annual crude oil production of 24 million tons.
4. According to Cailian Press, several industry insiders have stated that the next few years will be a "Golden Period" for the development of nuclear power in China. Its clean and stable characteristics will play an irreplaceable role in promoting the energy transition. Currently, China has 56 nuclear power units in operation, tied for second place with France, and second only to the United States, which has 93 units.
5. The European Commission is confident its investigation into, and measures against, state subsidies for Chinese electric vehicles are compatible with WTO rules and its probe will continue, the EU executive arm said recently. The EU imposed provisional tariffs of up to 37.6% on imports of EVs made in China in July, keen to protect its domestic EV production, after an EU investigation found the cars were subsidised by China.
6. Shell and PetroChina have decided to expand the Surat coal seam gas project in Queensland, the British oil and gas giant said on Monday, amid calls for more investment to boost local energy supply. The decision comes at a time when industry executives have been pushing for government measures to bring back investments put off by a slew of state interventions to curb energy prices and boost domestic supply.
7. According to the latest report from InfoLink Consulting, global energy storage battery cell shipments reached 114.5 GWh in the first half of 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of 33.6%. During the same period, global energy storage system shipments totaled 90 GWh. The top 5 system integrators on the AC side in the first half of 2024 were Tesla, Sungrow, CRRC Zhuzhou, Fluence, and Envision Energy Storage. Collectively, the total shipments of the top 5 integrators exceeded 30 GWh.
8. China's new energy passenger vehicle sales surged 36.9% YoY to 878,000 units in July 2024, accounting for 51.1% of the total vehicle sales, up 15 percentage points YoY, marking the first time for the NEVs to outnumber diesel passenger vehicles: China Passenger Car Association.
9. Over 7,500 photovoltaic panels, covering an area of 15,000 square meters, are neatly installed atop Hangzhou West Railway Station in east China's Zhejiang. The project generated nearly 3 million kWh of electricity in 2023, reducing CO2 emissions by over 2,979 tonnes.
10. State-owned power company China General Nuclear has signed an agreement with Laos to expand a planned renewable energy base in the country's northern region, the state-run People's Daily reported on Monday. The latest deal adds a second phase of the project that will include a 580 MW wind and solar plant in Luang Namtha province and a 420 MW solar plant in Oudomxay province. It follows an initial agreement signed by the two sides last September to build a renewable energy base in the north of the country.
