1. On Oct. 16, Chery Holding Group and CATL jointly announced that Shenxing supercharged batteries will be launched in Chery's model STERRA ES. Shenxing supercharged batteries will be mass-produced by the end of 2023, and models equipped with Shenxing supercharged batteries will be officially launched in the first quarter of 2024.
2. The third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation will be held in Beijing today and tomorrow, with representatives from over 140 countries and 30 international organizations and over 4,000 delegates set to attend the event, Xinhua reported on Oct. 17.
3. Chinese EV startup Leap Motor said in its earnings report yesterday that its net loss narrowed 26% to CNY986 million in the third quarter from a year earlier. Revenue rose 32% to CNY5.7 billion, as sales jumped 24.5% to over 44,320 units.
4. On Oct. 16, a liquefied ethylene gas (LEG) carrier designed and built by China's Nantong CIMC SinoPacific Offshore & Engineering Co. Ltd. for a German company successfully hit the water in E China's Qidong, Jiangsu. The 116-m-long, 18-m-wide environmentally friendly ship has a deadweight of 6,300 tonnes, capable of holding most gas cargoes incl. ethylene at -104°C.
5. The 2nd phase of Shenhai Yihao, or Deep Sea No.1, China's first independently developed ultra-deepwater gas field, has seen the completion of its first development well, with a tested daily output of over 1 million m3 of natural gas and 230 m3 of condensate oil.
6. WM Motor's founder Freeman Shen left China and has not appeared at the company since January, Shanghai Securities News reported today, citing a person close to Shen, after rumors said he made an excuse to attend the IAA Mobility in Germany and flew to New York.
7. CNOOC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company KazMunayGas JSC (KMG) on Monday in Beijing. As part of the agreement, the two countries will conduct joint geological research on promising exploration projects and expand cooperation on existing fields and oilfield services in Kazakhstan.
8. According to the Report on Sinopec's 10-year Performance in Contributing to Joint Construction of the Belt and Road launched on Oct. 17, at present, Sinopec has implemented 31 oil and gas exploration and development projects, 314 petroleum engineering project contracts, and 113 refining projects in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
9. On Oct. 17, Thai government spokesman Chai Wacharonke said Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, having met with Xiaomi's vice president and CFO Lin Shiwei, invited Xiaomi to invest more in Thailand. Thavisin said Xiaomi was invited to expand its investment and trade in Thailand after he learned that the company was looking for new production sites, such as an electric vehicle plant, and that the country's environment was richly endowed by nature and would make it a regional center for electric vehicle production.
10. Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone has signed a deal worth $6.75 billion with China Energy for green ammonia and green hydrogen projects to be established in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, a cabinet statement said on Tuesday according to Reuters. It also signed a deal with Hong Kong-listed United Energy Group to establish a potassium chloride production complex with an expected investment of up to $8 billion, the statement said.
