1. A Tianjin factory of Danfoss, a global refrigeration industry giant, has achieved 100% green energy usage since Monday, the company said. Danfoss signed in November last year a 10-year green power purchase agreement with the State Grid (Tianjin) Integrated Energy Service Co., Ltd. and the Tianjin Yinghua New Energy Technology Development Co., Ltd. to purchase green power from Yinghua's newly built solar farm.
2. China has issued its first refined fuel export quotas for 2024 totaling 19 million metric tons, a volume unchanged from last year's and largely in line with market expectations, Chinese consultancies and multiple trading sources said on Friday, according to Reuters.
3. U.S. energy giant ExxonMobil Corp has formally exited the West Qurna 1 oilfield in southern Iraq and handed over its operations to PetroChina as lead contractor, a deputy oil minister told Reuters on Monday. Senior Iraqi oil officials met with executives from ExxonMobil, PetroChina and Basra Oil Co on Monday at the West Qurna 1 field near Basra to mark Exxon's complete exit and the handover of its operations to PetroChina.
4. BYD beat Tesla to become the world's top pure electric carmaker in the fourth quarter of last year, Jiemian News reported. BYD sold 526,409 EVs in the three months ended Dec. 31, while Tesla sold 484,507.
5. Germany added about 14GW of solar capacity in 2023. The German Solar Industry Association said Germany's solar additions last year had increased by around 85% YoY, as German developers added around 7.5GW of solar capacity in 2022. Around half (7GW) of the newly installed solar power capacity in 2023 was from the residential segment, increasing by 135% YoY.
6. Rongsheng Petrochemical unveiled that the Chinese private petrochemical giant and its second-largest shareholder Saudi Arabian Oil Company are in talks to buy stakes in each other's subsidiaries. Moreover, the pair plans to partner on a new CNY67.5 billion (USD9.5 billion) facility in the planning at Rongsheng.
7. The US has become the world's biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas for the first time, with 2023 shipments overtaking leading suppliers Australia and Qatar. The US exported 91.2 million metric tons of LNG in 2023, a record for the country, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
8. China's NEV brand NIO and LONGI Green Energy reached strategic cooperation on January 3 according to the official announcement. The two parties will promote the use of photovoltaic power generation in charging and swapping stations.
9. China's 1st self-developed nuclear power plant, the Qinshan Nuclear Power Station with 9 operating units, set a new record hitting an average unit capability factor of 96.8%, outranking global counterparts and marking safe and stable operation, according to the World Association of Nuclear Operators.
10. After Neta Auto's sales slumped to No. 5 among NEV startups last year from No. 1 in 2022, co-founder and CEO Zhang Yong issued a self-criticism letter saying the main reasons were bad strategy in old and new product transition, pricing, loss-making product lines, and marketing.
