1. Toyota announced Wednesday it is recalling nearly 280,000 Toyota Tundra, Sequoia and Lexus LX 600 vehicles because of a transmission problem that can result in cars rolling forward while in neutral.
2. Stretching over 1,000 kilometers at an altitude of 2,800-5,300 meters, the Qinghai-Xizang grid interconnection project has operated safely for over 12 years, with a cumulative power transmission of more than 20 billion kWh, its operator said.
3. Saudi Arabia's non-oil exports experienced a 12% surge in December 2023 compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, official data showed. According to the General Authority for Statistics, the total value of non-oil exports in December reached SR26.5 billion ($7.07 billion), marking an increase from SR23.6 billion in the same period in the preceding year.
4. A new mineral, tantalaeschynite-(Ce), has been discovered in east China and was recognized by the International Mineralogical Association. Rich in the rare metal tantalum, the mineral offers great potential for applications in high-end capacitor and aerospace sectors.
5. Huawei and Dongfeng Motor-backed Mengshi Tech will jointly develop smart vehicle ecosystems and promote the commercialization of Huawei's smart vehicle solutions, the pair announced today. Huawei had earlier joined hands with two other Dongfeng NEV brands, Voyah and Avatr Tech.
6. China's Xpeng on Thursday said it has established a strategic partnership with UAE-based Ali&Sons and added Italy to its Europe plans, as the electric vehicle maker ramps up overseas expansion. The announcement adds to Xpeng's partnerships with local dealers for the Egypt, Azerbaijan, Jordan and Lebanon markets. Multiple Xpeng models will go on sale in the five Middle East and North African countries starting in the second quarter of this year.
7. Recently, the 49.5MW La Pech 2 Wind Power Plant Project managed by SPIC Vietnam subsidiary, has commenced full-scale operations. Upon achieving full commercial operation, the project will ease the region's power deficit significantly.
8. China's luxury NEV brand HiPhi is reported to be delisted. According to NBD, HiPhi's laborers including factory managers have not yet received the payments they deserve. NBD recently reported that car companies including BYD and Li Auto have invited interested former HiPhi employees for interviews at HiPhi's factory gate in Jiangsu.
9. Bohai Oilfield, China's largest offshore crude oil producer, marked a record-high daily output of more than 10,000 tonnes of crude oil at its nine oil and gas fields in the central-western Bohai Sea, its operator said on Wednesday.
10. China will introduce its first-ever environmental social governance disclosure guidelines for listed companies. Firms included in the SSE 180 Governance Index, SSE Science and Technology Innovation Board 50 Index, SZSE 100 Price Index, and ChiNext Index, as well as those listed both in the Chinese mainland and offshore, will be required to issue a sustainable development report, according to the notice released to by the two bourses to solicit public opinion recently.
