1. The China-built Asia's 1st cylindrical floating, production, storage, and offloading facility (FPSO) Sunday left for S China's Pearl River basin to serve at a deepwater oilfield. It has a max oil storage capacity of 60,000 t and can operate for 15 years at sea without docking.
2. Geely refuted media reports that it has inked a strategic partnership deal with autonomous vehicle tech firm Foretellix, with the Chinese carmaker asking relevant outlets to delete the false information, it announced on Weibo on May 11.
3. China's 1st self-developed 100-kg class vehicle-mounted liquid hydrogen system debuted Friday in Beijing. Compared to its predecessor, the system boasts a 20% increase in effective volume and will help hydrogen-powered heavy trucks achieve a range of over 1,000 km in one charge.
4. Kremlin-owned energy kingpin Gazprom, once Russia's most profitable company, could face a long period of poor performance as it struggles to fill the gap of lost European gas sales with its domestic market and Chinese exports. The company recently announced an annual net loss of $7 billion, its first since 1999, following a steep decline in trade with Europe.
5. U.S. President Joe Biden is set to announce new China tariffs as soon as this week targeting strategic sectors, including a major hike in levies on electric vehicles, according to Reuters. The full announcement, expected Tuesday, will maintain existing tariffs on many Chinese goods set by former President Donald Trump, according to one of the people.
6. China has put the first large-scale sodium-ion battery storage station into operation, marking the beginning of the adoption of the new, lower-cost battery for large-scale use. A 10-MWh sodium-ion battery storage station was put into operation on May 11 in Nanning, Guangxi in southwestern China, said China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage, the energy storage arm of Chinese grid operator China Southern Power Grid.
7. Chinese photovoltaic giant Tongwei reached an agreement with Longi Green Energy Technology to supply CNY39.1 million (USD5.4 million) worth of silicon materials to the Chinese solar panel maker. Longi and its nine units will buy 862,400 tons of high-purity crystalline silicon products from six subsidiaries of Tongwei between this year and 2026, the Chengdu-based seller announced on May 11.
8. To avoid the dilemma of low-price competition, Voyah will establish closer ties with local ecosystems in overseas markets, according to the CEO of the high-end electric vehicle brand under Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Group.
9. Tesla's Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory construction project has recently obtained a construction permit. It is Tesla's first energy storage gigafactory project outside the United States. The factory is scheduled to commence construction this May and is expected to begin mass production in the first quarter of next year.
10. A 750kV power transmission&transformation project has started operation at an average altitude of 3,175 m in NW China's Qinghai, expected to boost the clean energy-rich province's power generation by over 9 billion kWh, equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions by 8.64 million tonnes.
