1. China has requested the World Trade Organization set up an expert panel to help settle a dispute over electric vehicle subsidies under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, the country's commerce ministry said on Monday. The world's No.2 economy opened the WTO dispute in late March after the Biden administration passed the IRA, a wide-ranging law that provides billions of dollars in tax credits to help consumers buy EVs and firms to produce renewable energy, as the White House looks to decarbonize the U.S. power sector.

From the federal government's perspective, it is now crucial to seek a rapid and consensual solution with China, a spokesperson said.
7. The world's largest energy storage project of 7.8 GWh was signed! China's photovoltaic inverter manufacturer Sungrow said on Tuesday it has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia's Algihaz Holding for an energy storage project with a capacity of up to 7.8GWh. The project, expected to be delivered this year, will improve the stability and reliability of Saudi Arabia's power grid and help realize Saudi Vision 2030, the company said in a statement.
8. A multinational joint scientific expedition team has achieved a record-breaking drilling depth of 402.2 m and extracted a lake sediment core under the lake bed of Nam Co, the world's highest saltwater lake in SW China's Xizang, expected to contribute to paleoclimate study.
9. SAIC Motor Corp's MG brand is considering building its first electric vehicle plant in Europe in Galicia, Spain, to produce EVs for sale to different European markets, Europa Press said in a July 12 report, citing company sources. MG will make a decision by September 30, targeting the fourth quarter of 2027 to produce its first vehicle at the European plant, according to the report. In addition to Spain, SAIC is also considering locating the plant in other countries, such as Hungary or the Czech Republic, where labor costs are lower, the report said.
10. Great Wall Motor, Seres Group and JAC Group are among five Chinese auto manufacturers that anticipate substantial jumps in profit in the first six months from a year earlier, Securities Daily reported, citing the earnings reports of the eight carmakers to have released their first-half results as of July 11.
