1. US President Donald Trump said it would be possible to reach a fresh trade deal with China, signaling he is open to heading off a brewing trade fight between Washington and Beijing, according to Bloomberg.
2. “It's possible, it’s possible,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Wednesday, when asked if he would make a new agreement with China.
3. Trump did not describe the parameters of a potential deal, and any agreement would face significant obstacles. Since his inauguration four weeks ago, Trump has imposed a 10% tariff on all imports from China.
4. On February 20, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun hosted a regular press conference.
5. Asked about the comments, Guo said China has repeatedly stated its position that there are no winners in trade wars and tariff wars, which will only undermine the interests of people from all countries.
6. At a separate news conference, China's commerce ministry said Beijing "urges the US side not to wield the big stick of tariffs at every turn, using tariffs as a tool to engage in coercion all around".
