1. In H1 of 2023, China's power generation rose 3.8% YoY to 4.1680 trillion kWh. In June alone, the country generated nearly 740 billion kWh of electricity, up 2.8% YoY, according to National Bureau of Statistics on Monday.
2. China's power battery output climbed 36.8% YoY to 293.6 GWh in H1 of 2023, while 152.1 GWh of batteries were installed in NEVs during the same period, up 38.1% YoY, according to the latest industry data.
3. Global demand for sodium-ion batteries is expected to grow to just under 70 GWh in 2033, from 10 GWh in 2025, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27%, according to UK-based market research company IDTechEx.
4. A Chinese-Swiss research group has fabricated a 2D-3D perovskite solar cell with a world-record power conversion efficiency. The cell uses a 2D perovskite layer at the interface between the perovskite and the hole transport layer, which the researchers said can improve charge-carrier transport/extraction while suppressing ion migration, according to pv magazine.
5. Chinese automobile manufacturer Geely will invest $10 billion to turn Tanjung Malim in the Malaysian state of Perak into a major auto-making hub, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, according to state news agency Bernama.
6. JinkoSolar recently released its 2023 mid-year performance report. In 2023H1, the company's net profit attributable to the parent company was RMB 3.66-4.06 billion, up 304%-349% YoY; in 2023Q2, the net profit attributable to the parent company was RMB 2.002~2.402 billion, up 297%~377% YoY. In 2023Q2, JinkoSolar's shipments are 17.5GW, maintaining the first place, up 70% YoY. Its N-type TOPCon products shipments are about 10GW, and its module shipments rank the first.
7. China exported 10,338 tons of rare earth and its products in June 2023, an increase of 4.1% YoY; the cumulative export of rare earth and its products was 58,252 tons, a YoY decrease of 0.1%, according to the data of China's General Administration of Customs on July 18.
8. China's first 10,000-ton level photovoltaic green hydrogen project - Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project contracted by SINOPEC's Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Corp. has successfully started trial production. Located in the Aksu region of NW China's Xinjiang, the project is currently the world's largest photovoltaic power generation green hydrogen project. After fully put into operation, it can produce 20,000 tons of green hydrogen per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tons per year.
9. Unit No.5 of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant in Pakistan, 3rd overseas nuclear power unit applying China's self-developed nuclear reactor Hualong One, broke ground Fri. It will generate about 10 bln kWh of electricity a year upon completion, meeting demands of over 4 mln households.
10. China’s special envoy for climate change Xie Zhenhua concluded a 4-hour talk with US counterpart John Kerry in Beijing on Monday morning. According to Reuters, John Kerry said it was "imperative that China and the United States make real progress" before U.N.-sponsored climate talks begin in Dubai, as waves of extreme heat and rainfall hit large parts of the globe.
