1. China's mangrove forest coverage has expanded by over 7,200 hectares from the beginning of the century, bringing the country's total to 29,200 hectares. By 2025, China will have restored 9,750 hectares of mangrove forests and had 9,050 hectares of newly planted mangrove forests.
2. On Tuesday, a 1,200-tonne jack-up offshore wind turbine installation platform was delivered in Qingdao, E China's Shandong. This 106.6-m-long and 44.2-m-wide platform can help install the largest offshore wind turbine in China with high efficiency.
3. China's power generation through wind and solar energy grew 16% and 7.4%, respectively, in the first half from a year earlier, Guan Peng, an official at China's top economic planner, said at a press briefing yesterday, according to the NBS.
4. China has made progress in achieving carbon neutrality, with its carbon emissions showing a downward trend in the past 10 years, said a report published on Wednesday. Nearly 400 million tonnes of carbon dioxide have been stored every year due to the country's afforestation.
5. The first turbine of the Bukhara Wind Power Project in Uzbekistan, constructed by CEEC, started installation on July 20. The project is currently the largest of its kind under construction in Central Asia.
6. On Wednesday, the world's 1st 700-TEU fully electric container ship was undocked in E China's Yangzhou. With a length of 119.8 m & a width of 23.6 m, the China-built ship, equipped with the world's largest-capacity batteries, is expected to cut CO2 emissions by about 2,362 tonnes annually.
7. XPeng Motors' stock soared 27% yesterday after Volkswagen said it will buy a 5% stake in the Chinese EV maker for USD700 million. The pair will work together to launch two MEB platform-based EVs in the Chinese market in 2026.
8. The world’s biggest maker of electriccar batteries, CATL, reported a report profit for the first half mainly driven by growth at its power and energy storage batteries businesses. Net profit soared 154 percent to CNY20.7 bln (USD2.9 bln) in the six months ended June 30, the Ningde-based firm said in an earnings report released on Wednesday. Revenue jumped 68 percent to CNY189.3 bln (USD26.5 bln).
9. Recently, a Chinese-contracted photovoltaic project with the largest single installed capacity in Serbia has started construction. The 13.86-MW PV station will generate over 16 million kWh of green electricity and cut CO2 emissions by 16,000 tonnes annually upon completion.
10. On Tuesday, the 2nd phase of a "smart factory" for manufacturing offshore oil and gas extraction equipment started construction in Binhai New Area, N China. The project is part of the country's first intelligent base designed for offshore oil and gas equipment production.
