1. The virtual power plant management center of Hainan province, the first provincial-level center of its kind in China, was established on Wednesday. The virtual plants are expected to intelligently enhance the balance between the supply and demand of the island's power grid.
2. UAE-based electric car maker NWTN Inc. Monday announced a strategic investment of $500 million to acquire a 27.50% stake in embattled property developer China Evergrande's Hong Kong-listed electric vehicle subsidiary. The deal signed between NWTN and China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle also allowed NWTN the right to nominate a majority of EVGRF's board.
3. China has drawn ecological protection red lines to cover 3.19 million square kilometers of its territory, protecting over 90% of typical ecosystem types in all 35 priority areas for biodiversity conservation, a blue book report said Tuesday.
4. On August 14, JinkoSolar (SH: 688223) released its semi-annual report for 2023. The operating income in the first half of 2023 was CNY 53.624 bln, up 60.52% YoY; the net profit was CNY 3.843 bln, up 324.58% YoY; the basic earnings per share were 0.38 Yuan/share.
5. According to data released by China's National Energy Administration on Monday: In July, the electricity consumption of the whole society was 888.8 bln kWh, up 6.5% YoY. From Jan. to Jul., the total electricity consumption of the whole society was 5,196.5 bln kWh, up 5.2% YoY.
6. A power transmission project spanning 2,290 km from NW China's Xinjiang to SW Chongqing Municipality is expected to promote energy security and carbon neutrality. Launched on Tuesday, the Hami-Chongqing ±800kV ultra-high voltage direct current power transmission project will cross over five provincial-level regions to send power from the power-resource-rich Hami City to Chongqing's Yubei District.
7. Bakun Hydropower Station, located on the Balui River in Sarawak, Malaysia, is the largest hydropower project in Malaysia and the second tallest concrete face rockfill dam in the world. The reservoir capacity of the power station is 43.8 bln cubic meters. Also known as the "Three Gorges Project" in SE Asia, it represents cutting-edge dam-building technologies today.
8. The first hydrogen urban train in Asia and the second in the world was embarked on by China's CRRC Corporation Ltd. Green trains were just started in Germany. The operational range of the hydrogen trains without refueling is 600 km, and their top speed is 160 km/h.
9. The top 10 global solar inverter vendors accounted for 86% of the market in 2022, up 4% year on year from 2021, according to a new study by Wood Mackenzie. The market grew 48% year over year, due to easing supply chain challenges and strong government support. For the 8th consecutive year, the top two vendors were Huawei and Sungrow. Huawei held the 1st position with a 29% market share in 2022. Sungrow increased its market share from 21% in 2021 to 23% in 2022. Ginlong Solis moved up to 3rd place in 2022, driven by the company's shipments in China.
10. China's investment in new nuclear power plants is expected to hit 231 billion yuan ($31.80 billion) by 2025, with an estimated growth in domestic nuclear energy industrial chain which will aid the country's goal of carbon emissions reduction, CITIC Securities said on Monday.
