1. Chinese scientists and engineers have completed an offshore test of an ocean thermal energy electricity generation device in the South China Sea. During the test, the device generated electricity for four hours and 47 minutes, reaching a maximum power output of 16.4 kW.
2. The century-old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, which blends Moorish, Islamic and Indian architectural elements, now represents a new collaboration between China and Malaysia. Since the entry of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) in Malaysia in 2010, China has supplied Malaysia with 120 sets of train carriages, including intercity electric multiple units, light rail vehicles and hybrid trains by 2022.
3. BP CEO Bernard Looney resigned on Tuesday with immediate effect after less than four years in the oil major's top job for failing to fully disclose details of past personal relationships with colleagues, the company said. Chief Financial Officer Murray Auchincloss will act as CEO on an interim basis, the company said.
4. A new series of smartphones launched by Huawei has drawn global attention for containing technology that indicates the company could come back as a rival to Apple. In late August, the company unveiled the Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro, and last Friday launched two more smartphones, the Mate X5 which is a new version of its foldable phones, and the Mate 60 Pro+. The Mate 60 is priced from 5,999 yuan ($817.70), the same as Apple's iPhone 14 in China.
5. Beijing Benz halted production of next-gen compact cars at its plant in Daxing district from this week for 40 days due to renovations, autopix reported. The Mercedes Benz's China JV will suspend production of the EQ series at its NEV plant in Shunyi district amid sluggish sales.
6. JA Solar announced on Monday that its Dongtai base located in Jiangsu Province officially began shipping DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules to the global market. With a total distance of nearly 4,000 kilometers, the first modules will arrive in Tibet soon.
7. The European Union is launching an investigation into Chinese subsidies for electric vehicles as the bloc frets over the ability of its industry to compete. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the probe Wednesday, saying that the global market is flooded with cheap Chinese cars, according to Bloomberg.

The APAC region has more than 680 companies that draw more than half their revenue from clean energy, which includes renewable and nuclear power, electrified transport, biofuels, hydrogen and carbon capture, BNEF estimates. That compares with closer to 410 companies in the US and roughly 430 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa combined. Chinese companies such as solar leaders LONGi and Tongwei are benefiting from the nation's dominant position in the clean energy supply chain, according to BNEF.
