1. Recently, Chinese oil major Sinopec is planning to file a complaint against a key US natural gas exporter, joining at least five other customers that have said Venture Global LNG Inc. isn't honoring its contracts. Sinopec is preparing to file for arbitration in London against Venture Global for failing to fulfill its contract to supply liquefied natural gas, according to Bloomberg citing a person familiar with the matter who isn't authorized to speak publicly. On Oct. 12, according to reports, Sinopec stated that it would not comment on the matter.
2. On Oct. 12, China's Narada Power announced that it had signed a Procurement Contract with a British energy storage company, and the supply product was a 178MWh energy storage lithium battery system.
3. On Oct. 12, NETA Auto announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with BNP Paribas in Shanghai, officially reaching a strategic cooperation in auto finance. According to the memorandum of understanding, areas of cooperation will cover aspects such as personal finance, car insurance and services.
4. China's first cold region electric riverboat has passed ship classification in NE China's Heilongjiang. The smart boat, about 27 m long and 6 m wide, is powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries with a total capacity of 600 kWh for a max 100-km voyage and can seat 53 people.
5. On Oct. 13, data from the General Administration of Customs of China showed that in the first three quarters of 2023, China's imports of energy, metal ores and other bulk commodities increased by 16.5% YoY. Among them, energy products such as crude oil, natural gas and coal were 860 million tons, an increase of 31.8%; iron, aluminum and other metal ores were 1.086 billion tons, an increase of 7.8%.

On Oct. 13, data from the General Administration of Customs of China showed that in September 2023, China imported 45.74 million tons of crude oil, 42.14 million tons of coal and lignite, and 10.145 million tons of natural gas. From January to September 2023, China's cumulative crude oil imports were 424.265 million tons, up 14.6% YoY; cumulative coal and lignite imports were 347.652 million tons, up 73.1% YoY; cumulative natural gas imports were 87.767 million tons, up 8.2% YoY.
7. Xpeng Inc.'s boss He Xiaopeng met with Volkswagen AG executives in Germany recently, offering a bullish update on its partnership with Europe's biggest automaker. The head of the Chinese EV maker held talks with VW CEO Oliver Blume and China head Ralf Brandstätter at the company's headquarters in Wolfsburg in late September, the CEO said Thursday on his Weibo account.
8. The first centralized wind power project in Bangladesh, the Cox's Bazar wind power project, is connected to the grid and started power generation on Thursday, according to its operator China's State Power Investment Corp. Upon operation, the project will provide Bangladesh with about 145 million kWh of clean electricity per year, reduce coal consumption by 44,600 tons and CO2 emissions by 109,200 tons, while meeting the electricity demand of 100,000 households, it said.
9. India's largest manufacturer of solar modules Waaree Energies is calling for the government to reinstate trade barriers to protect it from competition from the likes of China and Vietnam. The temporary relaxation of a safeguard mechanism stating a list of approved solar makers in March has ushered in a flood of cheap imports, forcing local manufacturers to idle some capacity, Waaree Energies Ltd. Chairman Hitesh Doshi, said in an interview.
10. Xiaomi's first mass-produced car model will be unveiled next year, priced below CNY300,000 (USD41,000), Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at TF International Securities, said on X. The model featuring autonomous driving and 800V fast charging may sell up to 60,000 units, he predicted.
