1. China's newly installed capacity is expected to reach 250 million kW by the end of 2023, with the installed capacity of solar power and wind power estimated to exceed that of hydropower for the first time, according to a blue paper report released on Sunday.
2. In September, China's entire society consumed 781.1 billion kWh of electricity, up 9.9% YoY. The domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 103.5 billion kWh, up 6.6% YoY. From Jan. to Sep., the total electricity consumption in the whole society was 6,863.7 billion kWh, up 5.6% YoY. The domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 1,041.2 billion kWh, up 0.5% YoY, according to data from the National Energy Administration of China on Oct. 16.
3. Three pure-electric, self-driving taxis have been put into trial operation in Kangbashi District, N China's Inner Mongolia. Equipped with multiple sensors & a cloud cockpit, the taxi guarantees a high level of safety, with a security officer seated in the cabin in case of emergency according to current policy requirements.
4. Huawei spent CNY1 billion (USD139 million) and added 20,000 supply chain workers to ensure the delivery of the Aito M7, for which the company has received over 60,000 orders since its launch on Sept. 12, Richard Yu, head of Huawei's smart car BU, said in a livestreaming.
5. Indonesia will seek China's help for renewable energy and infrastructure projects when President Joko Widodo attends the upcoming Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, a cabinet minister said on Monday according to Reuters. Any partnership with China would be parallel with the Just Energy Transition Partnership(JETP) - a $20 billion deal Indonesia has with a U.S.-led group of countries to help decarbonize its energy sector, acting Chief Investment Minister Erick Thohir said.
6. Chinese aluminum product maker Shandong Nanshan Aluminum plans to spin off its Indonesian business and list it in Hong Kong to guarantee more convenient financing for its future development. In April 2023, Nanshan Aluminum planned to invest in an annual output of 250,000 tons of electrolytic aluminum and 260,000 tons of carbon projects in Indonesia. The investment amount is approximately CNY 6.063 billion.
7. On Oct. 16, according to Geely Holding Group's official WeChat, Geely Holding Group's total sales in September were 264,400 units, up 26% YoY; new energy vehicle sales were 93,700 units, up 38% YoY, and the penetration rate of new energy vehicles reached 35%. Geely Automobile sold 170,472 vehicles in September, up 31% YoY.
8. Vehicle production and sales in China saw their best September last month, beating the expectations of the country's leading trade association. In all, 2.85 million vehicles rolled off the country's assembly lines in September, up 6.6% YoY, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Some 2.41 million units were sold in the Chinese market, up 4.5% YoY.
9. The Indian government's discomfort over letting state-controlled refiners pay for Russian oil imports with Chinese currency has held up the payment for at least seven cargoes, according to Reuters citing people with direct knowledge of the matter. The tussle over payment has not disrupted deliveries so far, with Russian firms such as Rosneft continuing to supply state-controlled Indian refiners, who are seeking alternative ways for settlement.
10. On Oct. 16, Anglo American Platinum, BMW Group, and Sasol announced that they had signed a cooperation agreement to introduce hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and hydrogenation technology to South Africa.
