1. China General Nuclear Power Corporation, a major nuclear power operator in China, saw its installed capacity of clean energy top 100 million kWh in 2023, the energy group said. The company generated 333.8 billion kWh of grid power in 2023, up 23.4 billion kWh from 2022.
2. Tesla's EV deliveries jumped 38% to 1.81 million units in 2023 from the previous year, while production rose 35% to 1.85 million units, the US EV maker said yesterday. Its Megafactory in Shanghai resumed production at a normal rate last quarter, and making of the updated Model3 ramped to full speed in less than two months, it added.
3. Merck China announced the signing of a ten-year green electricity purchase agreement with China Resources Power Holdings Co., Ltd. This is Merck's first long-term green electricity procurement project in China, with the total green electricity purchased in ten years reaching 300 gigawatt hours (GWh), Cailian Press reported on January 25.
4. On January 24, CNPC Chairman Dai Houliang and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in oil, gas, new energy and other areas. The same day, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and China National Petroleum Corporation signed a strategic framework agreement to expand their energy cooperation.
5. Pan Huimin, the deputy director of the International Cooperation Department of China's National Energy Administration, announced today that the world's newly installed renewable energy capacity in 2023 is 510 million kilowatts, and more than 50% of this capacity comes from China, according to the latest data.
6. The 1st China-made straddle-type monorail vehicle for urban rail lines 4 and 6 of Monterrey, Mexico, set out for export Wed in Wuhu, E China's Anhui, expected to reach its destination in March. A total of 13 Chinese trains, each with 6 carriages, will run on the 25 km route.
7. China's largest-scale concentrated solar power project accomplished the installation of 11,960 heliostats, spanning a 580,000 sqm site in Kazak Autonomous County of Aksay, NW China's Gansu. The 750-MW project can produce 1.7 bln kWh of clean electricity a year upon operation.
8. Southwest China's Guizhou Province is targeting a 15% year-on-year increase in the added value of its new energy vehicle industry in 2024, according to the annual session of the Guizhou Provincial People's Congress held on Wednesday. It is also expected that the added value of the new-energy battery and materials industry in the province will register a 15% YoY growth in 2024.
9. Chinese auto manufacturer Great Wall Motor plans to actively promote its plug-in hybrid and electric cars this year and boost overall sales by 54% from the year before as the owner of the Haval, Ora and other brands transitions to new energy vehicles.
10. Clean energy accounted for 40% of China's economic growth last year, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, potentially giving the sector more political heft in Beijing. The green economy contributed a record 11.4 trillion yuan ($1.6 trillion) to China's gross domestic product in 2023, a 30% jump from the previous year, the independent research organization said in a report. Solar power, and manufacturing of panels, electric vehicles and batteries were the main investment drivers, it said.
