1. Chinese auto giant Geely Holding Group declared its ongoing support to Swedish automotive manufacturer Polestar after Volvo Cars, another shareholder of the electric vehicle brand, said it is considering transferring its stake to Geely to focus on a line-up of in-house electric models.
2. Chinese EV startup Li Auto today announced that it delivered 31,165 vehicles in January, up 106% from a year ago, bringing the total to 664,529. It had 474 retail stores in 142 Chinese cities at the end of 2023, and aims to expand that to 800 this year, the carmaker added.
3. A team of Chinese and New Zealand researchers has developed a type of membrane that can work for more than 5,000 hours to efficiently convert carbon dioxide into formic acid, a useful liquid chemical, according to the study published in the journal Nature.

The billionaire founder and CEO of Citadel, Ken Griffin, isn't typically concerned with battles over market share, but after China's largest EV maker, BYD, managed to outsell Tesla in the fourth quarter, Griffin said he fears the West will need to find a way to keep cheap Chinese EVs from flooding the market. "Watching BYD surpass Tesla in global sales was a bit of a heartbreaking moment," he told CNBC on Tuesday, adding that "we've got a real competitor in China."
5. Offshore Oil Engineering, the engineering arm of Chinese offshore oil explorer China National Offshore Oil, has secured a USD900 million engineering, procurement, and construction contract for a project in Qatar. Offshore Oil Engineering will design, build, and install 38 submarine oil and gas pipelines, nine submarine compound cables, and related facilities for the AI-Shaheen oilfield exploitation project in Qatar, the Tianjin-based firm announced yesterday.
6. China's total wetland area has so far reached 56.35 million hectares, ranking first in Asia and 4th worldwide. Within 10 years since 2012, over 800,000 hectares of wetlands had been newly added or restored, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China.
7. Wafer FOB China prices have stayed consistent for the third consecutive week due to a lack of significant changes in the market fundamentals. Mono PERC M10 and G12 wafer prices remain steady at $0.246 per piece and $0.357/pc, respectively. Cell manufacturers who intend to keep up production throughout the Chinese New Year break have started to accumulate raw materials, which has increased the volume of wafers traded.

10. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced on Thursday the launch of a Public Investment Fund company called "Alat". The company will contribute to the aim of making Saudi Arabia a global hub for sustainable technology manufacturing that focuses on advanced technologies and electronics, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
