1. The 2nd phase of Deep Sea No.1, China's 1st independently developed ultra-deepwater gas field, has successfully installed all 3 sets of deepwater central manifolds with a total weight of 540+ tonnes, the heaviest & most complex underwater facilities of the project in south China
2. The Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, the first nuclear power project in western China, saw its No. 4 unit connected to the grid on Tuesday. The unit, which uses the China-developed Hualong One reactor, is expected to be put into operation in the first half of 2024.
3. The 300 MW compressed air energy storage station in Yingcheng, central China's Hubei Province, started operation on Tuesday. Dubbed as a "super power bank", the station is expected to generate 500 million kWh power annually.
4. Chinese automakers and shippers are ordering a record number of car-carrying vessels to support a boom in EV exports, data showed, putting China on course to amass the world's fourth-largest fleet by 2028. China currently has the world's eighth-largest fleet with 33 car-carrying ships, showed data from shipping consultancy Veson Nautical. Japan has the world's largest with 283 ships, followed by Norway's 102, South Korea's 72 and Isle of Man's 61.
5. Voyah, the high-end electric vehicle brand under Chinese state-owned automaker Dongfeng Motor Group, rolled its 100,000th vehicle off the production line at its plant in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone yesterday.
6. Shanghai will give a CNY2,800 (USD390) subsidy to consumers who purchase a fuel car this year with the latest China 6b emission standard to replace a used passenger vehicle under the China 5 standard, as part of the city's measures to boost consumption and go greener.
7. Faraday Future announced yesterday it has set up a Middle Eastern sales entity in Dubai, which is part of its plan to expand into the local market. The carmaker plans to launch a limited-edition model tailored to the Middle East, with initial deliveries targeted for this year.
8. China National Petroleum Corp., the country's biggest natural gas supplier, will expand its fleet of ships that carry the fuel as it looks to enhance its role as a global gas trader. CNPC's trading arm, PetroChina International Co., plans to increase the number of liquefied natural gas tankers it has available to 25 by 2030, Wang Haiyan, the firm's deputy general manager, said at a forum in Beijing on Tuesday.
9. XPENG Motors, a leading Chinese smart electric vehicle company, today expands its footprint through a dealer partnership with Sime Darby Motors in Hong Kong. The partnership will enable XPENG to bring its latest smart EVs to local consumers in the Hong Kong market with branded showrooms, after-sales support, and comprehensive guidance through each stage of the buying process.
10. China said it was concerned by what it called discriminatory measures by the European Union against its firms after the bloc said it would investigate subsidies received by Chinese suppliers of wind turbines destined for its countries. "The outside world is worried about the rising tendency of protectionism in the EU," foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press briefing on Wednesday.
