1. China's first island and reef comprehensive geological research vessel was commissioned in south China Friday and will work for maritime geological study in south China sea. The 63.5-m-long ship boasts an endurance of 3,500 nautical miles and a self-sustaining capacity of 35 days.
2. This 5-km autonomous driving bus route in Yuhang District is the first of its kind powered by vehicle-road coordination technology in east China's Hangzhou. The route with HD cameras and radars enables self driving buses to achieve holographic sensing of the road network.
3. The No. 4 unit of Fangchenggang nuclear power station started power generation after completing a 168-hour trial operation on Saturday in S China's Guangxi. The plant's No. 3 and 4 units, both using China's Hualong One tech, can generate 18 billion kWh of electricity annually.
4. An Egyptian company is partnering with China's second-largest state-owned automaker in the latest effort to build affordable electric cars in the Middle East's most populous nation. Under the deal, a subsidiary of Egypt's GV Investments will begin local production of China FAW Group's cheapest model in the first quarter of 2025, according to Sherif Hamouda, chairman of the Cairo-based firm.
5. The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, which is a key trade and logistics route jointly developed by provincial-level regions in western China and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) members, has now expanded to reach 514 ports in 123 countries and regions worldwide, according to the latest data released on Friday.
6. Goldman Sachs on Monday raised its forecast for global oil demand in 2030, predicting that oil consumption will peak in 2034 as the adoption of electric vehicles may slow, which will keep refineries operating at above-average rates until the end of the decade.
7. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan will have a state visit to China on May 30 following an invitation from his counterpart Xi Jinping. Discussions between the two leaders would mainly be regarding bilateral relations between the two countries, and how to further strengthen their economic, developmental and cultural ties, state news agency WAM reported.
8. According to the National Energy Administration of China, recently, Director of the NEA Zhang Jianhua met with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in nuclear power, renewable energy, energy storage and other fields. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on China-Turkmenistan energy transformation cooperation.
9. A LNG carrier made in China was launched on Monday in NE China's Liaoning, showcasing the LNG carrier shipbuilding capability of another Chinese shipyard. The new ship has a storage capacity of 175,000 m³ and is scheduled for delivery in 2025. It will be able to supply Dalian, Liaoning for 1.5 months.
10. Xiaomi plans to deliver 120,000 EVs in 2024, up from 100,000, driven by robust Q1 revenue growth of 27% YoY, to $10.42 billion. Starting from June, double-shift production will be applied to ensure monthly deliveries surpass 10,000 units.
