1. Donghai Wang and colleagues introduce a fluorinated ether with minimized lithium-ion coordination capability and enhanced electrochemical stability to improve both cyclability and calendar life of lithium batteries, according to Nature.
2. China completed its first manned deep-sea expedition in Atlantic Ocean after research vessel Shenhai Yihao carrying deep-sea manned submersible Jiaolong returned to east China's Qingdao on Tuesday. The expedition conducted 46 dives with a total voyage of 57,000 km.
3. A majority of Europe's chief executives believe relations between Europe and China will worsen over the next three years, with the EU's de-risking strategy and Beijing's close ties with Moscow cited as the greatest areas of friction. The European Round Table for Industry (ERT), which includes chief executives and chairs of large European companies such as ASML and Unilever, found 54% of those surveyed believed EU-China relations would deteriorate, with just 7% seeing improvement.
4. China's BYD launched on Tuesday the latest version of a plug-in hybrid technology that improves fuel and cost savings, intensifying competition with the likes of Toyota and Volkswagen that still sell mainly gasoline cars. BYD's chairman Wang Chuanfu unveiled the fifth generation of the hybrid technology that achieves a record low fuel consumption of 2.9 litres per 100 km (62.1 miles) on depleted batteries at an event in Shaanxi province's capital Xian.
5. Spanish customers will be able to learn more about Chinese car brands through a new collaboration between two major automobile dealers' associations from China and Spain, an industry insider said.
6. Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Beijing on Tuesday on a state visit to China and to attend the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum after an invitation from President Xi Jinping. El-Sisi will hold talks with Xi and senior Chinese officials focusing on ways to forge closer relations and unlock broader prospects for cooperation in several fields.
7. China plans to invest around RMB 6 billion in the research and development of all-solid-state batteries. According to China Daily, six companies, including CATL, BYD, FAW, SAIC, WELION, and Geely, are set to receive basic R&D support from the government.
8. Ganfeng Lithium announced today on an interactive platform that the company has successfully achieved mass production of its first-generation solid-liquid hybrid battery. This battery has an energy density of 240-270Wh/kg and has passed the acupuncture safety performance test. The company is currently in the research and development stage for second-generation solid-liquid hybrid batteries.
9. Asia's first cylindrical floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) facility, Haikui No. 1, arrived at the offshore oilfield cluster Liuhua in S China's Pearl River Mouth Basin on Wednesday. The 37,000-tonne FPSO facility has a storage capacity of 60,000 tonnes of oil.
10. The EU has opened an antidumping investigation into imports of lysine from China, its sixth trade case against Beijing in a month. The only EU producer of lysine, an amino acid used in food supplements, complained about cheap Chinese imports. The two sides are engaged in tit for tat trade skirmishing. The biggest cases are an EU investigation into subsidised electric vehicle imports and a Chinese probe into dumping of brandy by the EU.
