1. China has agreed to enter talks with the EU over its decision to impose higher tariffs on imports of Chinese electric vehicles, during a visit to Beijing by Germany's vice-chancellor aimed at soothing tensions. Robert Habeck, minister for economic affairs and climate action, welcomed the move by China to enter discussions with Brussels on EU tariffs but said it was "a first step and many more will be necessary".
2. China's 1st LNG-diesel dual-fuel cutter suction dredger recently embarked on its trial voyage from E China's Jiangsu. The 155.7-m-long dredger, capable of holding 17,000 m³ of mud, can start dredging with a single push of a button, allowing it to be operated by just one person.

8. On July 22, over 40 media professionals and online influencers visited the R&D labs and intelligent manufacturing base of Chinese new electric vehicle maker Li Auto in Beijing's Shunyi District. With 89 R&D labs across Beijing, Shanghai, and Changzhou, Jiangsu, the company opened its six most representative labs at Beijing's R&D headquarters for the first time. Notably, the vehicle semi-silencer lab alone can conduct over 2,300 tests annually, with a test output value exceeding RMB 10 million (US$1.37 million).

Tesla's second-quarter margin hit a more than five-year low, the electric vehicle maker is likely to report on Tuesday, and its CEO Elon Musk is expected to double down on the company's robotaxi plans and AI products. Discounts to clear inventory, price cuts and incentives such as cheaper financing options offered to boost EV sales have squeezed Tesla's margin over the past two years, while sales dropped as customers grew tired of its old model lineup.
