1. North China's Inner Mongolia has so far registered a total carbon sink volume of 119 million tonnes and 10.54 billion tonnes of total carbon reserves of forests, grasslands, and wetlands, ranking 1st and 2nd in the country, respectively, according to regional forestry and grassland bureau.
2. The 1st unmanned electric locomotive in NW China's Shaanxi rolled off the production line Sat. With a range of 20-30 km, the train for transporting materials at subway & tunnel construction sites uses techs like facial recognition & lidar and can boost efficiency by over 50%.
3. Asia's beleaguered oil refiners have received welcome relief on two fronts as crude prices slide and top supplier Saudi Arabia offered some relief. Saudi Aramco, the kingdom's state-controlled producer and the world's largest oil exporter, raised its official selling prices for September-loading cargoes for Asian customers by less than expected.
4. Saudi state oil giant Aramco reported $29.1 billion in net profit for the second quarter, a dip of 3.2% from last year as production volumes remained low. Aramco reaffirmed its second-quarter base dividend of $20.3 billion and declared a performance-linked dividend of $10.8 billion to be paid in the third quarter.
5. The liquidators of failed property developer China Evergrande have launched an effort in a Hong Kong court to recover $6bn from its founder Hui Ka Yan and other top company executives. The legal proceedings, detailed in a filing to Hong Kong's stock exchange late on Monday, mark the first public effort by the liquidators to recover assets from Hui since a judge ordered the winding up of Evergrande's locally listed entity in January.
6. The 2024 Fortune Global 500 was officially released on Monday, and it includes a total of 133 Chinese companies. Among them, 10 automobile and auto parts manufacturers from China made the list. These companies are SAIC Motor (93), FAW Group (129), BYD (143), GAC Group (181), Geely Holding Group (185), BAIC Group (192), Dongfeng Motor (240), CATL (250), China South Industries Group Corporation (the parent company of Changan Automobile) (343), and Chery Holding Group (385).
7. Carrying about 5,000 made-in-China vehicles, the China-built 7,500-unit LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier Min Jiang Kou has completed its maiden voyage after arriving at Jebel Ali Port of Dubai, UAE, providing support for global automotive logistics & supply chain.
8. Zheng Zeguang, the Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom, recently visited the CNOOC Petroleum Europe headquarters in Aberdeen. During his visit, Zheng had an in-depth meeting with CNOOC's management team and their partners. He expressed his pleasure at the deepening cooperation between China and the UK on energy security and green technology.
9. Talks between the Italian government and China's Dongfeng Motor Group about building an auto plant in Italy are at an advanced stage, according to Reuters citing sources on Tuesday. The negotiations are part of efforts to attract another major automaker to the country in addition to Stellantis, the country's sole major automaker whose brands include Fiat and Alfa Romeo. The Rome government could join Dongfeng with a minority stake in the investment which aims to set up a hub for the whole of Europe.
10. Robin Zeng Yuqun, the chairman and CEO of CATL, mentioned at Huawei's full-scenario new product launch conference on August 6th that a battery must achieve a defect rate of one part per billion to be considered a good product. He stated that there could be over 200 unexpected side reactions in batteries, and thorough research and development are necessary to address each side reaction and ensure the battery's reliability throughout its life cycle.
