1. The largest distributed building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) project among all ports in China was fully connected to grid Wed in S China's Guangdong. The project at Nansha Port can yield 6.8 mln+ kWh of power a year on average, equivalent to carbon emission cut of 4,338 tons.
2. China's Commerce Ministry met with automakers and industry associations on Friday to discuss raising import tariffs on large-engined gasoline vehicles, sounding a warning as the European Union nears a tariff decision on Chinese electric cars. The 27-strong bloc is due to vote in October on whether to adopt additional duties of up to 36.3% on Chinese-made electric vehicles on top of its standard 10% import tariff.
3. China has issued guidelines for medium- and long-term green power trading, calling for a market-based approach, a notice on the state planner's website said on Friday. The rule lays out a price mechanism under which green power prices will be determined by the electricity price plus the price of green certificates, according to the notice jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Energy Administration (NEA).
4. China's yuan inched higher against a softer dollar on Friday and looked set for the fifth straight weekly gain, its longest winning streak in more than three years. The yuan was supported by stronger corporate interest in converting their foreign exchange receipts on the back of recent dollar weakness, but gains were capped by market caution ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's speech in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, later on Friday.
5. Nio today announced that it will report unaudited financial results for the second quarter of 2024 on Thursday, September 5, before the US markets open. The electric vehicle (EV) maker delivered a record 57,373 vehicles in the second quarter, exceeding the upper end of the guidance range of between 54,000 and 56,000 vehicles it provided on June 6 when it reported its first quarter financial results.
6. On August 23, the National Energy Administration of China reported that the country added 25GW of photovoltaic and wind power installed capacity in July. This expanded the total capacity to 1,206GW. By reaching this milestone, China has achieved the goal set in December 2020, which aimed for a minimum of 1,200GW of photovoltaic and wind power installed capacity by 2030.
7. China's first 5.5G network base station on an offshore oil platform has started service at the Shengli Oilfield's No. 3 platform off the coast of east China's Shandong, greatly enhancing the platform's data collection and land-sea information transmission capabilities.
8. Chinese renewable power developer CGN New Energy Holdings has commissioned a 400MW offshore floating solar project in Laizhou Bay, the first large-scale deep-water offshore solar project in the country.
9. Sinopec's three public listed subsidiaries, namely, Sinopec Engineering (Group) Co., Ltd., Sinopec Oilfield Service Corporation, and Sinopec Kantons Holdings Ltd., announced their respective interim results in Hong Kong this week with sound growth in petrochemical engineering, oilfield services as well as storage and logistic operations, respectively.
