1. On Mon, the 660.65-tonne steel containment bottom head of Unit 4 of Phase II project of the Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant was hoisted into place in Zhejiang, China. The unit expects to generate 10 bln kWh of electricity yearly, equivalent to cutting CO2 emissions by 7.5 mln tonnes.
2. An international research team in China has used Czochralski n-type c-Si wafers from China-based Sichuan Yongxiang to build textured wafers with a thickness ranging from 65 μm to 55 μm. They have used the wafers in heterojunction solar cells ton hit efficiencies close to those of devices cells based on conventional wafers.
3. Huawei Solar signed a new contract with China ENERGY ENGINEERING GROUP SHANXI ELECTRIC POWER CONSTRUCTION CO., LTD. at SNEC2023 in Shanghai. The two sides will work on green energy and double-carbon strategy.
4. On May 27, at the 2nd Emission Peak and Carbon Neutrality Technology Forum at the 2023 ZGCForum, Zhan Wenlong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that nuclear power could replace coal as a baseload energy in the grid as carbon neutrality is achieved in 2060.
5. According to PV magazine, China-based researchers have developed a model for photovoltaic pavement, achieving a potential electrical output of 0.68 kWh/m2 and an efficiency of 14.71%. Through simulations across 255 Chinese cities, they have determined that electricity potential ranges from 0.70 kWh/W to 1.83 kWh/W.
6. Recently, according to State Grid Ningxia Electric Power, as of the end of April, Ningxia has 16 grid-connected energy storage power stations, with a total grid-connected scale of 1.324 million kW/2.653 million kWh, of which the grid-side energy storage grid-connected capacity is 1.286 million kW, ranked first in China.
7. Chinese manufacturer SPIC Solar, unveiled a photovoltaic module at the Shanghai SNEC event last week that combines TOPCon and back contact (BC) solar cell technologies. It says the new PV modules have power outputs ranging from 450 W to 460 W, and power conversion efficiencies ranging from 22.9% to 23.4%.
8. The drilling of China's first borehole over 10,000 meters deep for scientific exploration began on Tuesday in the Tarim Basin, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
9. Recently, Bureau of Geophysical Prospecting INC., CNPC has successfully signed five large-scale marine and land seismic exploration contracts with the world's top oil companies in the Middle East.
