1. On June 4, Zhang Jianhua, the Administrator of China’s National Energy Administration, met in Doha with Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of Energy in Qatar, to discuss energy relations and cooperation between Qatar and China.
2. On June 6, Shanghai Electric Power announced that its first grid-side shared Energy Storage project the Hunan Huarong energy storage project invested by the company has achieved a full-capacity grid connection. The energy storage scale of the project is 100,000 kW/200,000 kWh.
3. On June 6, Tongwei announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Tongwei Solar intends to cooperate with the Shuangliu District Government of Chengdu to invest in the construction of a project with an annual output of 25GW solar cells and 20GW photovoltaic modules in Chengdu. The project is expected to invest about RMB10.5 bln($1.5 bln).
4. On June 6, the Ministry of Natural Resources of China announced its support for the creation of 3D rights for offshore photovoltaics, offshore wind power, and other sea-related activities, while ensuring that national defense security is not compromised.
5. CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd., a major Chinese high-speed train manufacturer, has produced the first new-energy light rail train for Argentina, which is the first export project for such trains from China.
6. LONGi has signed an agreement with Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone for an investment of RMB12.5 billion to increase the production capacity of 20GW Monocrystalline Silicon Ingots and 24GW Monocrystalline Cells. The increased capacity is expected to start in the latter half of 2024 and reach full capacity in 2-3 years.
7. On June 7, China's EV battery maker, SVOLT Energy, is investing $30 million to build a new battery module factory in Thailand. The wholly-owned subsidiary, SVOLT ENERGY TECHNOLOGY (THAILAND) Co., LTD., will cement its position in the global energy storage market.
8. Recently, Goldwind's GW109-2.5MW wind turbines have arrived in Japan for the Yotsukura Project, marking their entrance into the Japanese market and commitment to global wind power solutions with reliability and stability.
9. China's Huadian Changbo Hydropower Station project on the Jinsha River has been approved for construction. It will be the fifth hydropower station in the Sichuan-Tibet clean energy base, with a total capacity of 826,000 kW. It is expected to generate 4.355 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving 1.3 million tons of coal and reducing 3.59 million tons of CO2 emissions.
10. Global electric vehicle power battery holdings reached 182.5GWh in Jan-Apr 2023, up by 49.0% YoY, says SNE Research. BYD ranks second due to its high domestic market share in China.
