1. In Jan-May of 2023, China's electricity consumption, a key barometer of economic activity, saw an increase of 5.2% YoY to 3.5325 trillion kWh, the National Energy Administration said Wed. In May alone, the country's power use expanded 7.4% YoY to 722.2 billion kWh.
2. At Intersolar Europe 2023 in Munich, Germany, LONGI announced that it achieved a staggering 33.5% conversion efficiency for silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells using commercial CZ silicon wafers.
3. Bangladesh's first floating commercial solar power plant was connected to the national grid recently. The project has a production capacity of 2.30 megawatts and required an investment of around 1.5 million U.S. dollars. It uses floaters, solar panels, and inverters from Chinese and German firms. The floaters are from Chinese Sungrow, solar panels from Chinese JA Solar, and inverters from German SMA Solar Technology.
4. The 123-meter ultra-long offshore wind power blade independently developed by Goldwind with 100% independent intellectual property rights was ready to be shipped from Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province to Fujian Offshore Wind Farm.
5. China marks a breakthrough in wave energy power tech as its 1st homegrown MW-level floating wave energy converter, Nankun, began trial operation Wed in S China's Zhuhai. The device has a max electricity output of 24,000 kWh per day, meeting the daily demand of 3,500 households.
6. On June 15, LONGi's annual production of 100GW-monocrystalline silicon wafers and 50GW-monocrystalline cells project started construction in Xixian New District, Shanxi. With a total investment of 45.2 billion yuan, the project is the photovoltaic production base with the largest construction scale and the highest production capacity of LONGi. After completion, 15,000 people will be employed.
7. China's Information Office of the State Council stated on Wednesday that the Hangzhou Asian Games aims to create the first carbon-neutral Asian Games in history with special actions on green energy supply and the green energy support of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power.
8. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates tweeted on Wednesday that he had landed in Beijing for the first time since 2019. Gates added that solving problems like climate change requires innovation. China has a lot of experience in investing in climate adaptation.
9. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, in May, China's power generation was 688.6 billion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%, of which solar power generation changed from a decrease to an increase.
10. On June 13, SPIC completed the delivery of the controlling stake in the Sofievskaya 39MW wind power project and the Arkalyk 17MW wind power project in Kazakhstan, adding new achievements in Kazakhstan's new energy market.
