1. The world installed 117 gigawatts of new wind power capacity in 2023, a 50% increase from the year before, making it the best year for new wind projects on record, according to the latest Global Wind Report, published Tuesday by the Global Wind Energy Council.
2. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Tuesday that China's massive investments in advanced manufacturing of clean energy goods have resulted in an unfair playing field that puts American workers and businesses at risk, and it needs to be mitigated.
3. China's Chery Auto has signed a joint venture deal with Spain's EV Motors to produce cars at its first factory in Europe, EV Motors and the Catalan regional government said on Tuesday. Cars will be produced later this year at a plant that Japanese carmaker Nissan shut down in 2021, helping to recover some of the 1,600 direct jobs lost as a result.
4. China's 1st homegrown ocean drillship Mengxiang has started debugging & installing its interior outfits, including 150 units (sets) of experiment equipment, in S China's Guangzhou. The ship is expected to complete sea trial verification in H2 2024 before official delivery by year-end.
5. According to the Report On The Development Of China's Nuclear Energy(2024), in 2023, China approved 5 new nuclear power projects and started construction on 5 new nuclear power units. As of now, there are 26 nuclear power units under construction in China with a total installed capacity of 30.3 million kilowatts, maintaining the country's world-leading position in both the number of units under construction and installed capacity.
6. Saudi energy giant ACWA Power has secured an $80 million equity bridge loan from the Bank of China for its Uzbekistan initiatives. The payment is split equally between Chinese yuan and US dollars, marking the first loan cooperation deal by a bank from the Asian country using its native currency involving a company from the Kingdom. ACWA Power said the fund will boost its Tashkent 200 megawatts solar photovoltaic power plant and 500 MW per hour battery energy storage system project in Uzbekistan.
7. Shell's former chief executive has joined private equity group KKR as a senior adviser for energy transition investments in his first corporate role since stepping down from the oil and gas major. Ben van Beurden, who started with KKR on a part-time basis in January, is advising the $553bn in assets investment group on its new global climate strategy within the infrastructure investment unit.
8. The Jinan Start-Up Area has kept itself at the forefront of global energy, focusing on the hydrogen industry. Collaborating with China SPIC since 2021, it has now introduced hydrogen-powered buses and continues to expand its green development initiatives.

According to China's National Energy Administration, in March 2024, the electricity consumption of the whole society in China was 794.2 billion kWh, a YoY increase of 7.4%; the domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 106 billion kWh, a YoY increase of 15.8%. From Jan. to Mar., the total electricity consumption of the whole society was 2,337.3 billion kWh, a YoY increase of 9.8%; the domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 379.4 billion kWh, a YoY increase of 12.0%.
10. Tesla's new battery factory in Shanghai will begin construction in May, expected to achieve mass production in the first quarter of next year, The Paper reported today. As the first energy storage super factory outside the US, it will initially produce 10,000 Megapack units per year, equal to nearly 40 GWh of energy storage.
