1. Chinese electric vehicle maker Leapmotor plans to officially launch and begin deliveries of its new C16 model on June 28, after starting pre-sales of the SUV at the Beijing auto show in late April. The company announced the plan in its official WeChat account last night, saying that the C16's starting price will be less than RMB 200,000 yuan ($27,560) for the top-trim variant.
2. Polestar plans to debut its EVs in France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Thailand, and Brazil next year through local distribution partnerships, the Swedish EV maker owned by Volvo and its parent firm Chinese auto giant Geely Group announced yesterday.
3. According to the National Development and Reform Commission of China, from January to May, the electricity consumption of the entire country increased by 8.6% year-on-year. The electricity consumption of primary, secondary, tertiary industries, and residents increased by 9.7%, 7.2%, 12.7%, and 9.9% respectively during this period. In May, the electricity consumption of the entire society increased by 7.2% year-on-year.
4. Tesla CEO Elon Musk told employees on Monday that the electric vehicle maker is working on stock-based compensation for high-performing employees, according to two people who reviewed an internal memo. The plan comes just days after Musk won shareholder approval for his $56 billion pay plan consisting of stock options and two months after he announced job cuts affecting more than 10% of Tesla's global workforce in the face of slowing demand for EVs and intensifying price competition from Chinese rivals.

6. The European Union's plan to impose additional duties on imports of Chinese electric vehicles will undermine its own green and low-carbon transformation and the global response to climate change, Li Chao, spokesperson of the National Development and Reform Commission, said Tuesday.

8. Brazil is emerging as a top importer of Chinese new energy vehicles amid China's diversification of NEV exports against the backdrop of ongoing trade conflicts. In April, Brazil imported 40,159 NEVs from China, up 92% year-on-year, thus becoming the top importer for two consecutive months, taking over from Belgium that held the top spot in February, said Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the Chinese Passenger Car Association, after analyzing data from the General Administration of Customs.

Chinese consumer demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) is likely to maintain its fast growth, which will increase the need for electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the country's top economic planner said on Tuesday. China's fast development of NEV fully respects market competition and the country will promote the transformation of its auto industry, said Li Chao, spokesperson of the National Development and Reform Commission.
