1. Volkswagen China and Xpeng Motors today signed a deal to develop electronic/electrical architecture for Volkswagen's China Main Platform and Modular Electric Drive Matrix platforms, the Chinese NEV startup announced today. The first vehicle under the deal is set to start mass production within 24 months.
2. Renault's CEO Luca De Meo expressed doubts over the timeline for transitioning to electric vehicles in Europe, adding the carmaker has to bring down costs if it wants to deliver on its EV goals, in comments to business daily Les Echos published on Monday.
3. BYD has launched a new model in Indonesia, continuing its efforts in exploring international markets. The Chinese new energy vehicle maker recently launched its all-electric multi-purpose vehicle BYD M6 at the 31st GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), according to a press release yesterday. The M6 is BYD's first MPV model launched in the Indonesian market and is also the first all-electric MPV in the local market, according to the company.
4. China's highest-altitude 220-kV power transmission and transformation project officially started operation on Sunday in NW China's Hotan. With its highest point reaching 5,390m above sea level, the 210-km-long transmission line can deliver 2.16 bln kWh of electricity per year.
5. Cui Dongshu, the secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, stated in a document that the proportion of power batteries being installed in vehicles has been steadily decreasing. Specifically, in 2021, the installation rate of power batteries in vehicles was 70%, which dropped to 54% in 2022 and further decreased to 50% in 2023. From January to June 2024, the installation rate fell to 47%.
6. China Petroleum Engineering Corporation, the construction engineering unit of oil and gas giant China National Petroleum, has won a USD397 million contract for an oilfield renovation project in the UAE, its third major contract in the country over the past ten months. CPEC's unit China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation will provide building, renovation, and upgrade services for the off-site facilities of the Asab Oilfield and its surrounding four satellite oilfields to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Onshore.
7. DHL and Envision team up for sustainable innovations in logistics and energy. The partnership covers four main areas: logistics solutions, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), green energy, and the joint development of a “Net Zero Industrial & Logistic Park".
8. China's finance ministry said on Monday it would extend tariff exemptions for the import of some US products until Feb. 28, 2025.

China's fiscal revenue slid 2.8% in the first half of 2024 from a year earlier, unchanged from a 2.8% fall in the January-May period, official data showed on Monday, as prolonged weakness in domestic demand dampened the outlook for an economic recovery. For June alone, fiscal revenue posted a 2.6% contraction year-on-year, versus a 3.2% drop in May.
10. China has reiterated its stance on reaching a mutually acceptable solution to a trade spat involving Chinese electric vehicles exported to the European Union as talks between the two sides continue. Scholars and stakeholders have elaborated on the indispensable role of Chinese EV makers, given their scale advantages and leading technologies capable of catering to diversified consumer needs, and, broadly speaking, the world's need to go green.
