1. NIO delivered 20,176 vehicles in August, the fourth consecutive month above the 20,000 mark. That's up 4.38 percent year-on-year, though down 1.57 percent from July.
2. CATL's long-term goal is to build 10,000 battery swap stations, CTO Gao Huan said yesterday. The Chinese battery giant expects its battery swap stations to reach 500 by next year, covering more than 30 cities, while targeting 3,000 stations by 2027.
3. Chinese state-backed oil and chemicals company Sinochem is planning to sell its 40% stake in a U.S. shale joint venture with oil major Exxon Mobil, valued upwards of $2 billion, according to Reuters citing people familiar with the matter.
4. China's market regulator said on Friday that Tesla Motors Beijing will recall 870 imported Model X vehicles from Oct. 8 due to a need to check the adhesive used to attach the roof of the vehicles which may pose a safety hazard.
5. Global electricity generation from solar farms has exceeded generation from wind farms since May, marking the longest ever stretch when solar power has been the top source of utility-scale renewable electricity worldwide. Solar electricity generation exceeded wind generation in May by 1.65 terawatt hours (TWh), and in June by 9.57 TWh, according to energy think tank Ember.
6. China's BYD will buy its German distributor Hedin Electric Mobility, BYD and Hedin said on Friday, as BYD moves to establish itself as a major electric vehicle maker in Europe. BYD Automotive GmbH will take charge of the sales activities of BYD vehicles and parts in the German market, as well as management of its stores in Stuttgart and Frankfurt, BYD said, adding that the deal was subject to approval and expected to close in the fourth quarter.
7. The China-built Redstone Concentrated Solar Thermal Power Project in south Africa, the first-of-its-kind renewable energy project in sub-Saharan Africa, will be connected to the grid in early September to supply 480 GWh of electricity for 200,000+ households annually.
