1. President Xi Jinping reiterated on Wednesday China's readiness to work with Russia to support each other on issues concerning core interests, and he called for enhancing all-around bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Xi emphasized that both sides should continue to tap the potential for economic partnership, consolidate and expand fundamentals of cooperation in the fields of energy and mutual connectivity, and create more growth points. Energy cooperation continues to be a major stabilizer for the bilateral ties.
2. Officials and experts said on Wednesday that ties among economies involved in the Belt and Road Initiative will be strengthened by closer energy cooperation — especially clean energy. Low-carbon investments involving BRI exceed those of traditional fuels.
3. The world’s 2nd-biggest solar wafer maker TCL Zhonghuan said on May 24 that it is teaming up with Saudi Arabian clean energy developer Vision Industries to construct the first solar wafer factory in Saudi Arabian. TCL Zhonghuan will provide the production tech and Vision Industries will leverage its local resources and experience of investing in renewable energies, such as solar, wind and hydrogen, to ensure the construction and operation of the solar wafer plant.
4. Chinese fuel-car giant Great Wall Motor is making its conflict with NEV giant BYD public, as the competition between the two grows fiercer. Great Wall Motor has filed a report with Chinese regulators against BYD, alleging that the latter's Qin Plus DM-i and Song Plus DM-i use normal-pressure fuel tanks and are suspected of having substandard evaporative pollutant emissions, according to a statement today.
5. Chinese module manufacturer Yingli Solar unveiled new bifacial n-type TOPCon solar modules for near-shore and offshore floating solar applications at the SNEC trade show this week in Shanghai, China. Yingli is offering six versions of its new 144-cell Panda 3.0 PRO solar modules, with power outputs ranging from 555 W to 580 W and efficiencies ranging from 21.48% to 22.45%.
6. The Nam Ngiep 1 hydropower station in Laos has a maximum dam height of 177 meters and installed capacity of 650 megawatts. Being a key energy project in the Belt and Road Initiative, it is also a green demonstration project in the country.
7. BYD unveiled its first integrated blade battery energy storage system in Shanghai yesterday. The new product can reduce the number of parts by about 36% and increase the space utilization rate and structural strength by around 98% and 30%.
8. China's newly installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power reached 62.51 million kW in the first four months of 2023, accounting for 74% of the country's total newly installed capacity, up 11.5 percentage points YoY, the National Energy Administration said Thursday.
9. With a total installed capacity of 50.6 MW, the 2nd phase of world's highest-altitude wind power project, which is expected to generate 150 mln kWh of electricity annually, saw its largest single-unit capacity wind turbine, a 3.6-MW one, hoisted in Comai County, SW China's Tibet.
