1. New breakthrough in solar technology: Chinese researchers have provided a strategy for fabricating large-scale, foldable silicon wafers and manufacturing flexible solar cells, according to a recent research article published in the journal Nature.
2. China's 1st homegrown 150-MW large-scale impulse water turbine runner has started power generation at Tianwanhe Step Hydropower Station in SW China's Sichuan. The 4-meter-diameter 20-tonne runner demonstrates China's leap in energy equipment.
3. Over 200 million m3 of natural gas has been injected into China's Wei-11 storage facility in Puyang, C China's Henan, enough to meet the gas demand for 10 million households in the north. Half of this year's task is complete.
4. The Jubail 3A independent water desalination plant in Saudi Arabia has been officially inaugurated by ACWA Power and its partners. Power China was involved in the project's execution. This Independent Water Project has the capacity to produce 600,000 m3 of desalinated water per day.
5. On June 6, Zhang Jianhua, Director of the National Energy Administration of China, met with Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Natural Gas of Angola. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on topics such as deepening and expanding oil and gas cooperation.
6. On June 8, at the 14th Lujiazui Forum 2023, Yi Gang, Governor of the People's Bank of China, stated that China's current energy structure is still dominated by fossil energy, Green Finance and Green Energy will play an important role in the realization of Emission Peak and Carbon Neutrality.
7. The automotive industry is facing overcapacity and needs to return to a more rational state, according to Changan Automobile Chairman Zhu Huarong at the China Auto Chongqing Summit 2023. China is projected to require 1000-1200GWh of driving force battery production capacity by 2025, while the current industry capacity planning has already reached 4800GWh. Business boundaries are being restructured with mutual penetration trends, leading to an unstable division of labor.
8. It was announced on June 8 by CNOOC that the Liuhua 16-2, China's initial self-created deepwater oilfield cluster situated in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, has generated over 10 million tons of crude oil since its commencement of production. The Liuhua 16-2 oilfield group, about 250km SE Shenzhen, has an average water depth of 412 meters and is the offshore oilfield with the deepest water depth in China. The current daily crude oil output has remained above 11,000 tons.
9. Electrification of road vehicles is initially dominated by China, Europe and North America, which together account for around 60-75% of the growth of electric road vehicles* to 2035 in the three scenarios and 50-60% of the growth to 2050, according to Bp Energy Outlook 2023.
10. The growth in installed wind and solar capacity out to 2035 is dominated by China and the developed world, each of which accounts for 30-40% of the overall increase in capacity in all three scenarios, according to Bp Energy Outlook 2023.
