1. Stellantis is considering producing up to 150,000 Leapmotor EVs at its Mirafiori complex in Italy from 2026 or 2027, as part of its agreements with the Chinese automaker, Automotive News Europe reported. Leapmotor has not yet commented on the matter.
2. Geely Automobile agreed to sell its whole 45% stake in Livan Automotive, an EV JV between Geely and Lifan Group, to Zhejiang Jirun Automobile for CNY504 million (USD70.1 million). Geely Group is expected to generate a net gain of CNY117 million (USD16.3 million) from the deal.
3. China's automobile exports jumped 47.4% YoY in January this year, industry data showed. A total of 443,000 vehicles were exported during the period, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. In breakdown, some 369,000 passenger vehicles were exported, surging 47.5% year on year, while the exports of commercial vehicles rose 46.9% from the same period last year to 74,000 units. Last month, China's new-energy vehicle exports also went up 21.7% every year to 101,000 units, data revealed.
4. Saudi Arabia's new $100 billion investment firm announced a string of deals Tuesday, including partnerships with SoftBank Group Corp. and a Chinese surveillance equipment maker to set up local manufacturing facilities, as part of the kingdom's efforts to transform itself into an industrial powerhouse.
5. Thailand will offer new incentives to promote the local production of battery cells and the adoption of new energy buses and trucks as it seeks to cement its position as a hub for EV manufacturing. The government will give cash grants to companies looking to set up local plants to produce battery cells in the country, Narit Therdsteerasukdi, secretary of the National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee, told reporters Wednesday.
6. Shares of Asia-Pacific Light Alloy Technology rose after the Chinese maker of automotive aluminum extrusion products said it became the designated parts supplier of the first electric vehicle of an overseas carmaker.
7. China has received an order to build the world's 1st ammonia-powered container ship, marking a breakthrough in clean energy for the global shipping industry. The homegrown 1,400-TEU ship, 150m long and 27m wide, will be delivered to its Belgium owner by 2026.
8. South Korea's automotive export grew for the 19th straight month due to robust demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed Wednesday. Car shipment jumped 24.7% over the year to USD 6.21 billion in January, continuing to increase since July 2022, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The number of exported vehicles was 245,255 in January, up 23.5% from a year earlier.
9. On February 21, according to the Beijing Supervision Bureau of the State Administration of Financial Supervision of China, by the end of 2023, the major Chinese banks in Beijing had a green credit balance of CNY 1.91 trillion, a 14.5% increase from the beginning of the year. The funds were primarily invested in green upgrades of infrastructure, clean energy, environmental protection, etc.

Chinese battery and battery materials suppliers have reportedly been asked by their European clients, such as BMW, Volkswagen, and Stellantis, to start producing in Europe as soon as possible, Yicai reported. A staffer at a Chinese battery supplier told 36Kr that large European automakers have asked the company to produce batteries, or at least cells and cathode materials, in Europe by 2027, the Chinese tech media reported today.
