1. The Chinese-built Cox's Bazar wind plant, Bangladesh's first centralized wind power project, was fully put into operation on Sunday. The project will provide the country with about 145 million kWh of clean energy a year, reducing CO2 emissions by 109,200 tons.
2. Chinese battery giant Eve Energy is in talks to invest GBP1.2 billion (USD1.5 billion) to build the UK's largest gigafactory on the outskirts of Coventry, The Times reported yesterday. The plant's initial capacity will be 20 GWh, with plans to expand to 60 GWh.
3. The world's first compressed natural gas (CNG) carrier was delivered on Saturday morning in the city of Qidong, east China's Jiangsu Province, before setting sail for Indonesia. With a capacity of up to 700,000 cubic meters per voyage, the vessel will be used to transport CNG between islands in Indonesia for use by peak-demand power plants. The carrier, powered by natural gas, has a length of 110 meters and a design speed of 14 knots (1 knot = 1.852 km/h).
4. China electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD on Monday lowered the starting price of a new version of its Seal electric sedan to 179,800 yuan ($24,978.12). The EV is priced 5.3% lower than its predecessor, Reuters calculations showed.
5. Sinopec reported a 9.9% decline in 2023 net profit on Sunday, weighed by falling oil and gas prices but supported by recovering fuel demand. The world's largest oil refiner by capacity posted a net income of 60.5 billion yuan ($8.37 billion), based on Chinese accounting standards, in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
6. Leapmotor electric vehicles (EVs) will be built at partner Stellantis' Tychy plant in Poland, two people close to the matter told Reuters on Friday, making it one of the first Chinese automakers to start production in Europe. The output of Leapmotor's T03 small EV car could start before the end of June, using the semi-knocked down technique involving turning partially assembled kits into finished vehicles, one of the people said.
7. Chery Auto will start selling Omoda and Jaecoo brand cars in Italy in 2024Q3, its Italian country manager said, making it the Chinese group's 2nd European market. By the end of 2025, Chery plans three SUV models each for the Omoda and Jaecoo brands with a mixture of fuel types to serve different parts of Europe.
8. BYD reached a new milestone as its seven millionth new energy vehicle rolled off the production line today, after hitting the six millionth mark last November. The seven millionth vehicle is the newest Denza N7, expected to hit the market on April 1.
9. China will promote the integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation and actively support foreign-funded firms in establishing R&D centers in the country, Jin Zhuanglong, Chinese minister for industry and information technology, said at the CDF2024 today.
10. China's battery giant CATL is working on faster charging batteries for Tesla Inc. as Elon Musk's automaker seeks to defend its market share and roll out an electric car for under $25,000, Bloomberg reported today.
