1. China’s Jiuwu Hi-Tech has stopped exporting a piece of equipment used to process the electric vehicle battery metal lithium, according to Reuters.
2. The company informed customers last month it would stop exporting filtration equipment known as sorbents from February 1.
3. China is the world's largest producer of sorbents, used to extract lithium from brines or other solutions containing the battery metal, although its market size can be difficult to ascertain given Beijing's reticence to share data, analysts say.
4. China has proposed restricting the export of technology to process lithium, widely used in batteries, in response to U.S. tariffs.
5. On January 2, China's Ministry of Commerce issued a notice soliciting public opinion on the adjustment of a catalog of technologies subject to export bans or restrictions, with battery cathode material preparation technology included.
