1. Leading Chinese silicon producer Tongwei Group has become the first photovoltaic company to join the Fortune Global 500 list. Tongwei ranked 476th with revenue of USD31.9 billion last year, according to the rankings released yesterday by media group Fortune.
2. Daqo Energy (SH: 688303) disclosed its semi-annual report on Thursday. In the first half of 2023, the company achieved operating income of RMB 9.325 billion, down 42.93% YoY; net profit of RMB 4.426 billion, down 53.53% YoY. During the reporting period, new production capacity in the polysilicon market was gradually released, and the price of polysilicon dropped sharply.
3. A China-Europe freight train transporting photovoltaic components to Uzbekistan was inaugurated Thur in NW China's Xi'an. A total of 60 trains carrying approximately 3,000 containers will transport products for a Chinese-built photovoltaic project in Uzbekistan via the service.

6. Chinese oil giant CNOOC said today that China's first and the world's largest LNG bunkering vessel Hai Yang Shiyou 301 anchored in Guangzhou Port on Thursday. It will provide bonded LNG bunkering services for the world's largest tonnage dual-fuel VLCC.
7. Commissioning ceremony of the Chinese-funded Hwange Thermal Power Station expansion project was held Thur in Zimbabwe with 2 new generators added to the existing 6 units at the power plant. The electricity generated by the plant will meet half of the country's demand upon completion.

As of the end of July, the total installed capacity of new energy in the operating area of China Southern Power Grid exceeded 100 mln kW for the first time, reaching 103.32 mln kW, accounting for 25% of the total. From Jan. to Jul. 2023, the new energy power generation capacity in S China reached 87.5 bln kwh, up 37.4% YoY, and the utilization rate of new energy exceeded 99.9%, according to the Shanghai Securities Post today.
10. China's CATL retained its top ranking as the world's largest battery supplier since 2017 in the first half of 2023 while BYD beat South Korea’s LG Energy to come in second, according to SNE Research yesterday.
