1. Construction of the Qinghai Wah Rang Pumped Storage Power Station, the largest of its kind in western China, began on Sunday. The power station will be located near the New Energy Base in the Gobi area in Hainan Prefecture and has a total investment of CNY 15.94 billion.
2. Wuxi Zhongneng Photovoltaic Storage Technology Co., Ltd. in Jiangsu province signed a contract with the Jiangjin District Government of Chongqing on Sunday and will invest RMB 5 billion to build a perovskite solar cell module base with an annual output of 3GW.
3. China's offshore wind power saw newly installed capacity connected to the grid expand 25.5% YoY in H1 2023, while the electricity generated by the country's offshore wind power projects increased 22.7% YoY in the same period, the Ministry of Natural Resources said.
4. China became the world leader in automobile exports in H1 2023, surpassing Japan at the half-year mark for the first time as more Chinese electric cars were sold worldwide. Major Chinese automakers exported 2.14 mln vehicles in 2023H1, up 76% YoY, according to CAAM. Japan lagged at 2.02 mln, up 17% YoY, data from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association shows.
5. Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework, the China-built ±660kV Matiari-Lahore high-voltage direct current transmission project in Pakistan has run stably for over 1,000 days and transmitted 26.8 bln kWh of electricity since it started operation in 2021.

Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor and Chinese autonomous driving startup Pony.ai are investing CNY1 bln (USD140 mln) to set up a joint venture that will promote the large-scale rollout of unmanned taxi services across China. GAC-Toyota, which is Toyota's JV with GAC Group, will provide the smart cars, while Pony.ai will contribute the autonomous driving technology and the Robotaxi operating platform, both parties said on Aug. 4.
7. China and Saudi Arabia's stock exchanges are in talks to allow ETFs to list on each other's bourses, three sources familiar with the matter said according to Reuters. The talks are in the early stages, said the sources, and could mark a major first step by Beijing and Riyadh towards broadening cooperation beyond energy, security, and sensitive technology sectors.
8. The Nam Ou River Basin Cascade Hydropower Project in Laos, constructed by Power China, includes 7 cascade power stations with a total installed capacity of 1.272 mln kW and a total investment of nearly USD 2.8 bln. The project supports local economic and social development through clean energy output.
9. Chinese battery giant CATL said on its social media platform that it will host its first in-person product launch event on Aug. 16. Products and technologies in 4C fast charging as well as Qilin and M3P batteries will debut at the event, according to rumors, IT Home reported.
10. An 8,200-cubic-meter LNG bunkering ship independently designed and built by China set off from Qidong, Jiangsu Province on Monday, for a trial voyage in Zhejiang. The LNG bunkering ship has a total length of 113m, a width of 20m, and a depth of 13.5m. The ship is equipped with dual-fuel generator sets and has complete LNG bunkering functions.
