1. The first wind power demonstration project in south China's Guangxi comprising 83 turbine units is under construction in Fangchenggang. The project can provide over 5 billion kWh of green energy a year upon full operation, meeting the demand of nearly 5 million households.
2. A subsidiary of state-run China National Offshore Oil Co, has signed oil exploration and production contracts with Mozambique's energy ministry and national energy company ENH, Chinese media said on Friday. The contract, for five offshore blocks in waters off the African nation covers a total area of about 29,000 sq km (11,200 sq miles) with water depths from 500 m to 2,500 m (1,640 ft to 8,202 ft), according to Chinese media outlet Jiemian.
3. Xiaomi Auto announced on Weibo today that it plans to deliver over 10,000 vehicles in June. Additionally, the company aims to significantly increase production capacity and deliver more than 100,000 vehicles in 2024, with a goal of reaching 120,000 vehicles.

Cui Dongshu, the secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, announced today that the market penetration rate of new energy commercial vehicles in China reached 14% from January to April 2024. This marks a significant increase from the 3% penetration rate observed from 2019 to 2021, 9% in 2022, and 11% in 2023.

9. Tesla has cut output of its best-selling Model Y electric car by a double-digit percentage number at its Shanghai plant since March, according to industry data and a source. The move is aimed at addressing weakening demand for the U.S. automaker's aged model in China, its second largest market into which a majority of the cars produced at the Shanghai plant are sold and where a brutal price war has erupted among electric vehicle makers amid an economic slowdown.

Tesla founder Elon Musk told tech investors in Paris on Thursday he opposed U.S. tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, an about-face from his January warning that trade barriers were needed or China would "demolish most other car companies in the world." On Thursday, Musk said he did not favour measures that distorted the market.
